european delivery

Now i know this is way off topic and should not be in this forum, but i've been here for so long that i think i'll be here for my daily dose regardless what kind of car i own.

Now i'm highly considering the 1 series that's coming out in march 2008, i've been looking into the eurpean delivery where u travel to munich germany and pick up your car there and fly back. Has anyone done this? If so, please share you experience.

i would think it wouldnt be as much fun, unless you pay someone to break your engine in...being a 1 series, your gonna have to redline it the whole time to squeeze out enough power for the 'ring

maybe drive the autobahn for 1000 or so miles in one day? going 100 it shouldnt take too long as long as your not past 3000 rpms?

yeah, if you get to stay for a week, i would cruise up and down Germany and put on some mileage just sight seeing...when your at 1000 or 2000 whatever start pushing it. in a few days youll be ready to pay your $20 to lap nurburgring.

i read volvo does this too in the snow, and some other companies.

yea, if i do this, it'll probably during spring break. That's if the car arrives at the dealerships before then. But munich will be the first one to get it if anything.

135 is not gonna need to be wrung out to get power... tons of torque down low... 1 series has the same engines as 3 series, tia kyle. but yeah, breakin is more for the driver anyways.

i really really want to do euro delivery... check out stories and pricing info and recommendations, etc at bimmerfest.com

yeah youre right, go redline it off the lot and see how much extra oil you have to keep in your trunk the rest of the cars life. That would automatically be -10 HP in GT4 !

Lol, there are many, many threads/discussions about what proper breakin is. I'm not going to get into it, but babying a car during breakin is less than ideal from what I read and what I believe from personal experience and the experience of others (you want to load the engine then do engine braking, rinse, repeat, change oil early, done).

Also GTR*>GT*... gt* games are straight up unrealistic

I think BMW breaks in their cars pretty well already. Everytime i've been at a dealer they romp the **** out of it from the get go. I would do it but I would want to drive the crap out of my car at the ring too

If you can get your hands on a sept. 10 issue of autoweek magazine on pg.s 26,27 and 28 there is an article on picking up a new Audi S6 in Europe with several sidebars on euro delivery. This article may be on the www.autoweek.com website.
