Well... she's done

I want to thank everyone for their input and their suggestions, as usual, I can always count on my i-club bretheren for the skinny on all things car related.

Something I left out of my initial posting. A week before, while I was driving her car, I was nailed in an intersection. A panel van going about 40mph hit me with such little margin that it just scuffed the front bumper, caught the license plate and proceeded to rip off the entire bumper skin right off the car. He hit me so fast, that my car didn't even move. I didn't realize what happened until I saw the license plate and bumper skin spinning down the street. I ordered a third party replacement skin for $108 delivered and replaced it.

I used Bondo to clean up the rear bumper skin and spay nozzles and left the masking up to them. For $530 (tax included) they primed my bumper skin, spot sanded and primed the hood and trunk, took off all the emblems, cleaned up all of the adhesives; masked, painted and clear coated the car.

Problems: there was some primer overspray on the tires (yes the tires). Everything else was pretty clean. There were some trapped dust. Everything I asked them to mask, they did.

Conclusion: The operator of the SF shop was really nice. Could I have done a better job masking... sure. The paint is a little rough in some places. All in all... it was okay. It was a $500 paint job. I have to let the paint cure for about a month before I polish and wax the car. Anyone have any suggestions for polish and wax?

BTW... the color is "Medium Electric Blue Metallic"

Marc -

I saw some guy having their huge freakin' wing and front scoop bein painted. Not sure how much they charge for part painting. The only thing is that they use THEIR paints and THEIR color selection. You may find a color that is a close match. I think I found one for my Platinum Silver for the wagon.

Looks good. Wheel covers need to be clean or replaced to match the new shiny paintjob IMO.
