Unhappy Earl Scheib or Macco Help...

I know it's been a long time... I've been busy... really...

Anyways, I'm looking to have my wife's 1995 Honda Civic EX painted. She want's an enirely different color (BMW M3 Competition Blue). The car is 11 years old and the paint started wearing out on the hood and the roof. I just want the car painted well (<-that's the hitch) to last for like another 5 years.

Just wanted to know if anyone has any helpful hints about dealing with either one of these paintshops. Right know Earl Scheib is running a deal for $399 with a 6-year warrantee.

If anyone else got a local place they'd like to recommend for about the same price, please let me know...

BTW... still love my subie... it needs some work (mike and tommy) but i still love her...

TIA

Stan

I have heard you get the best results from these shops if you take some time to prep the car and do some of the masking yourself.

+1 - I'm going to be in need of a paintjob on the rally car soon and I'll be needing an inexpensive place to get it done. nothing fancy just plain white, as a base layer to help the sponsor graphics show up better.

Yea.. I figured as much. I was going to take all of the insignias off (or what's left of them), removing the wipers, spray nozzles for the wipers. But when you say "preping" did you mean sanding and masking?

you get what you pay for but if you're willing to do some prep work yourself you can get a decent job FOR the money from them. It's all in the prep work.

A color change anywhere else...somewhere respectable is gonna be more like $4k plus.

If you at least mask off the weathering stripping, the paint is decent. If you want it nicer you gotta do some sanding. I knew a guy that took his 74 nova to an earl schieb and they literally painted everything on the outside of the car except the windows. Weathering stripping, some overspray on the headlight bezels, stuff like that.

Buy a big box of 320 g wet sand paper, a few buckets and sanding blocks and a keg of sierra and invite everyone over for a sanding party!

Is it legal to have a kegger party out in front of the house?

BTW... while we're on the subject. How much to remove a couple of dents before the big paint job?

It would probably be wise to pull around back with the keg and all- and dump the water in the flower garden, but probably not the veggie garden.....

it all depends on the location and size. send me an email with pictures if possible. If you are close by, I can always take a look.

Not that I don't want your business. But if you are trying to save money and planning on doing the prep work yourself. You might just well do the BONDO after you strip the paint. Let me know!

Leo -

Yeah thanks. I'll take a good long look at the car and see what we can "live with" and get back to you.
