DL disks are the only way to get the whole movie uncompressed, but for the cost of the media, it just isnt worth it. What do you guys use when both decrypter and dvd shrink fail?

2 movies stand out at me. Madagascar and Assualt on Precinct 13

I wasnt able to successfully copy those
me too, I only burn the movie w/ the english formats that I want.

I haven't done madagacar yet, there is a long wait on netflix. but have for assalut on p. 13. that might have been one fo the few that required anydvd.

i run it thru anydvd, then dycrptor then shrink.

i burnt my first DVD. Zoolander
the only problem is that it's smaller than what i had expected. I guess i have the black horizontal bars from the original... plus those on my laptop. Oh well.

If i have a choice between DVD-R or +R, i should go with?...

worked great guys. thanks a lot.
happy holidays.

I've only used taiyo yuden -R and works on every dvd player I've tried. I think the key is to try it out on your dvd player(s) and if it works, stay with it.

+1 for dvdshrink. some modern movies have some new encrption techniques that are enough to **** off the pope, but add anydvd to the mix and anything is possible. anydvd is a TSR that defeats copy protection business. Then you open dvdshrink, and personally I like to reauthor most movies cutting the crap out of them making it movie only giving you a higher quality rip. I pull over movie only then the highest audio source(no need to have 3 different english sources) then leave the english subtitles on and let it make it. It's nice popping a dvd in and having it immediately play the movie.

As far as DVD-R or DVD+R, stick with +R unless your set top reader has trouble.

I burnt a DVD+R that didn't work on my DVD player even though it was supposed to.
videohelp.com says that DVD-Rs work on 93% of all players whereas DVD+Rs work on 89%.
The guy at best buy told me to stick with DVD-Rs. I bought 100 of each but i think i'll go return whichever one i won't use as much.
Good sale going on right now. 100 pack of DVD+R or -R is only 19.99.

I'm confused as to why the brand of a DVD +/- R matters. Quality issues?

Most say that DVD-R's are more compatible, but that might not be your problem. I think both formats are pretty good compatibility wise so long as you are not using an old DVD player.

The problem could have to do with the brand of your DVD player, the brand of media that you use, even the brand of your DVD Burner.

When you burned the DVD did you shut down all other programs running in the background? What speed did you burn the DVD at? MOST importantly what brand media did you buy?

I didn't shut down all other programs in the background. I burned at 4X and the DVD+R was a RiTek-came complimentary with my laptop. It plays fine on my computer, but doesn't play on my DVD player. After reading comments online, DVD+Rs are supposed to work better than DVD-Rs on my DVD player. Thanks.

Well on the forums I have been on, Riteks have been called anything from complete crap to O.K. I think it depends on the model(serial) number of the media. I would use a program to find out the model number of your media, then search on either videohelp or afterdawn. I THINK I used to use this program to pull model numbers; http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ .

If you don't mind spending the extra money Taiyo Yudens and certain Verbatims are widely known as the best media you can get
