i would hope people would not drink and drive anyway, however i would think people would like to be aware of the traffic problems caused by them. as they wouldnt be drinking and driving anyway, i would be happy if someone told me where to avoid while out cruising on a friday or saturday night.
but i digress...
i have had a friend go through a DUI checkpoint at 9am, on el camino in atherton/redwood city and get arrested, from drinking the night before.

I think a severe beating and a few broken ankles on the side of the road is a better DUI deterrent than some fines and community service.

i thought that DUI checkpoints closed at like 11pm or something like that? i've never seen or ran into one after midnight.. it would make sense for them to stay open until at least 3am so the "club crowd" gets checked.

Friday night they were running past midnight. Out here in Palo Alto they have been know to do checkpoints up until 3 am. On major holidays I have seen them even camp out close to the bars and on foot so they catch you before you even start your car.
