Driving in Marin is "over as we know it"

I should really say Knew It.

It started at the begining of the week. First thing, when i pulled out onto Sir Francis Drake on my way to work @ 4 am my radar detector goes of "LASER!!!!"

What the F*cK! Never before has this happened to me here in the Bay Area.

Well, now all this week almost anywhere i drove. If i "punched it" at any time My radar detector read "LASER" ??????? And i mean anywhere.
Out along China Camp
On Lucas Valley Rd
On the Hwy
San Rafael
San Anselmo
Fairfax
Greenbrae
Corta Madera

Everywhere. But the funny thing about it is that if you gain speed slowly and speed throw the same place nothing happens. But if you "gun it" the detector goes off.

My heart is crushed. I just hope that out on our drives in the country we won't have these problems.

so what does that mean? Seriously...I dont understand why it would read "laser" if you punched it, but not if you gradually speed up. Sounds like your detector gets confused when you are under hard acceleration....is that possible? I dont know, cuz I dont have a detector, but I SERIOUSLY doubt that every single time you punched it, in EVERY location, there was a laser gun aimed at you, that doesnt make sense to me.

I am curious to know if it was a false alarm due to increased electrical current going through the system or was it really detecting a laser. Is it possible to have your detector calibrated, or tested to see if it is functioning properly?

sounds kinda fishy to me....

Maybe something is loose and just makes contact when you floor it.

I have the Passport 8500 and have owned it for over a year. I've never have this problem before. And it's not 100% every time i punch it. Because i would just have to end my life if that was the case. But i drive fast "all the time" everywhere i go. and i'm getting hit at least 10 times a day. No cops anywhere, just the Laser warning.

I would much rather have laser then radar, as laser jammers are legal and work

I wouldn't be so sure, I don't know how it is with a Passport but my valentine sometimes gives false laser readings triggered by ignition noise on the power or ground.

You should check out the connections and contacts on the power cord for your detector.

So why wouldn't you come to the logical conclusion... your radar detector is broken. Get a new one, or better yet, throw the useless thing out the window.
