there are no discounts for notebooks
they are generally sold below cost with vendor kickback

Uhm... please build your own computer to balance ftw. I don't trust any built computer besides a mac... and mac's are built for overall performance, not balance =p. Difference is the need, seriously multi-tasking = mac. Straight performance is a PC =P. Owned both, know the difference.

I would think the multi-tasking capabilities would be dependent on how many cores the cpu has and your ram rather than which manufacturer made it.

PC stands for Personal Computer as in any computer with any operating system, Mac is for Macintosh which uses unix at its core. Most people refer to Computers built with Windows O/S as PC's for some reason.

It's funny, no matter what you build and whatever you use as an O/S they all use the same hardware components. Some how Apple likes to charge 2x MSRP for their (i)parts

I find that by building your own computer you can find higher quality parts and better performing ones as well. It's more a question of, do you want to deal with it when/if it breaks.

With that in mind I wouldn't choose a computer based on windows, unix, linux, OS X, or whatever. I would choose based on who is the cheapest to fix.

One more thing, please don't fool yourself by thinking a Mac breaks down less often. Well actually forget that, someone needs to feed the Apple marketing machine

I don't think BB employee's can give out discounts. I had a friend who used to work for BB and he told me that they actually track the products that Employee's are buying and will terminate them if they see them buying products at the employee rate and then reselling them.
