Do you shift gears without using your clutch?
I'm referring to the stock clutch, not a dog box.
When I put together that late night shooting meet there was a member there who I wont mention for his privacy (don't know if he wants to be mentioned) who mentioned that "he doesn't use his clutch during high speed driving".
I have never heard of anyone ever doing this with a subaru, EVER (unless its a modified gear box with dog gears). I know subarus already have f'ed up synchros from the factory, I wouldn't think that they'd last very long if the person was shifting without clutching.
Do you do this?
Can someone fill me in (The non-gay way) on why this is done and its effects on your gearbox.
The guy talked about it like it was a normal everyday thing... Me and the other members were like :huh:

He has a six speed, but even still, when I heard that I was like "What the hell!? I don't believe!!!" 
I hope the other guys that were with me chime in as they were there for that moment... it was funny, we all sort of looked at each other like "What the f.....?"...

yeah i dono man, its crazy that people do that.
I know truckers do it, but thats because the RPM difference in a freaking 20 speed semi is so close you dont need synchros to line it up.

I can shift at slow speeds(up to about 30-40mph) w/o using the clutch(Granny Shifting). Anything faster than that and you'll grind your gears. Like Al said above when coming to a stop I'll just pop it out of gear w/o the need to push the clutch pedal down.

i think the guy is lying.. unless i see it for my self
but yes you can drive the car without using clutch except for 1st gear
upshift and downshift at the right RPM but VERY SLOW SHIFTS

I used to do this all the time in an old RX-7 that I had, it teaches you how to rev match when you downshift. I have done this playing around with every car I have owned, I just mostly use the clutch to be lazy, but if you do it correctly and blip the throttle when coming out of a gear when you downshift, it will pop right into the lower gear as if you had the clutch pressed in.
on any manual transmission, you can downshift without using a clutch, as soon as you rev match, then the synchro will match and it will slide into gear just as if you were using a clutch.
that's partly what the clutch does, it helps the synchros mesh so you can easily shift.

if i didn't care, i can probably shift really fast without the clutch. but then i care so i'm not that fast shifting gears without clutch. downshifting seems easier though for clutchless shifting.

i dont think anyone is arguiing that shifting without a clutch isnt possible.
I think the bigger story is this guy is talking about driving aggresively and NOT using the clutch...
