Disappointing!!! Nearly all Bay Area state parks would close

Hey guys,
I went abalone diving earlier today and talked to the Park Ranger at Reef Campground in Sonoma County. She said that many of the state parks in N. Cal would close down thanks to the Governator. It's a shame if it happens but she told me to go to the CA State website and email so we keep these parks open. I truly believe that NorCal has the best state parks and to shut them down and let people wreak havoc at park sites is a travesty. Please help save these parks!

well, at the very least this reminds us to donate to the things we enjoy everyday! But still, no chance in hell this is going to go down. And how do they close something like that, what if we are to still show up?

Makes us look at that $8 parking fee @ Stafford Lake (for BAM 9) a little differently. A lot of their revenue is from parking fees, so imagine 300 subies @ $8 a car, that's $2,400 from just us alone that goes straight to the park!

It def makes me feel better about that parking fee. Look at it as your way of saving a park. (Not to mention all the fees we had to pay to rent the place, but parking will still be more expensive then renting the place! )

I really hope this doesn't go through, it'd be soooo messed up. CA is famous for its amazing parks... What would the parks turn into? Housing complexes? Or would they just be unmanned?

Lets pray that it doesn't happen.

Actually, VRT Gump and I were talking about this yesterday, wondering if they'd board it up and abandon it like a lot of the Fort Ord land (even the stuff without the explosives) or let the public have free reign over it. Neither one is good!

I really, really hope they AT LEAST leave the land as it is so it still exists and animals can still thrive in their little wilderness areas, rather then building parking lots and strip malls on such valuable land. Man, I'll be so upset if this happens...

Our parks are so valuable to CA citizens, I know for me alone they are one of the greatest things about living in CA... All of them unique and wonderful in their own ways... *sigh*

What a good way to f' CA in the ***, Arnold.

Kali was screwed from the beginning. They still don't realize that the government and their provisions aren't they key. They do need to realize to pretend the government isn't there and balance the word accordingly (however, balancing the work on with the wrong equations is still failing)

As much as the legalities and quantities show that everything is moving forward, there is still too much emphasized on the government (and the government will just keep creating the biggest black hole of debt known to man). Until we proceed as if we're our own country, we're just absolutely ****ed.

You didn't happen to watch an episode of South Park recently where they discussed the gov't and our economy, did you?

Well, through a friend of a friend, I had lunch with someone in the governors lobby - He told me that they will probably NOT close all of the parks for real - though some may close...and he told me if they do, they said closed is closed, however he told me that voluntary meters would most likely be installed at the entrances and in parking lots to pay for sanitation and garbage. He said this is because nobody will pay attention to a closed sign, and the land cannot be allowed to become a public health risk.

He said the other reason is to free up money in other areas, in particular "boating" money is a big target as well as other earmarked monies. The fees etc., gained from boating can only be spent on the waterways. Arnold wants this money for other things, so that if he can get the legislature to release boating money for the parks, he can then take whatever money he wants out of boating and put it into the general fund.

As I understand it, over 75% of fees and taxes are earmarked for very particular products/projects and to break the "earmark" requires the legislature to do it. The Gov cannot. So by attacking popular things like parks, he is trying to get the legislature to shake loose some of the earmarked items and move that money into the general fund.

Note: He did say that there would probably be a lot of park rangers that would lose their jobs in either case.
