Actually, that isn't neccesarily true- WRC and USRC rallys have "recce" where teams do get to drive the routes at slow speed and take notes a day or two before racing on them. The navigators job is to read those notes back in a manner that lets the driver focus on driving as fast as he can. NASA club rallys and Rally America rallys are run "blind", although they often will repeat stages over the course of an event, so even they aren't always totally new to them.

but once you're along the ridgeline, there are some nice straightaways which you can easily cruise @ 60+

Climbing the switchbacks is something done at speeds closer to 30 or so.

I don't know about you guys.... but back in the day (the 90s) I was a big Colin McRae fan... so I really am only familiar with euro rallying.... thats where my love for the WRX started.... then he had to ruin it and get in a Focus... damnit all to hell, he could have atleast convinced them to make a new version of the Cosworth, that might have actually been cool. And when I say Cosworth... i don't mean the focus version.... IMHO the only real cosworth is the Escort =P

When I was a kid in England the real street hooligans drove around in the big wing sierra cosworths.....it's funny to look back and realise that my scooby has more power. They became uninsurable because they were such a target for theft.

There was an RS200 that rolled around my home town (Nottingham), but as I remember they were banned as soon as they were entered into the WRC (Too fast to race DVD)

Yeah there were some awesome machines built for Group B- and a few that never got built like this audi- but only a few races run before the death toll got out of hand. The big wing sierras and escorts were pretty cool hardware in their day too.

Have you ever ridden in Merkur XR4Ti?

My friend had one of these, and let me tell you, the turbo combined with RWD is scary around wet corners....

There's also the Magellan Adventure Rally which is an accompanying event to the Laughlin Internat'l Rally. Roo and I ran it this past December with our Forester, and it was a blast! You also get a parade lap on the super stage the next day. We'll be doing it again this year, it's definitely worth the drive!

Hey that looks like a pretty version of the Escudo!

Probably one of the most ultimate rally cars... the uber pikes peak vehicle

Can you go fast enough to actually have some fun?? I didn't mean to make that sound rude... just curious if you can actually drift and get going a bit.

Metro 6R4's were the weirdest ones. In England they are a 1 litre economy car, but someone had the bright idea to take out the back seats and stick a 3.0litre V6....there were so many ultimate ricers that used to cruise the local ringroad with the 1 litre version fitted with a 6R4 bodykit....much worse than a full 555 stickerset on a scooby.
