Dirt Track? Rally Road near Marin?
Anyone know any great places like fire roads or dirt areas preferably.... either away from the Police or ok to be at...
I am going to get an 06 wrx but.... I used to live down in palm springs and in the desert we could always find a fun place to go "rallying". I mean... we would be doing 60mph+ on dirt roads (even at night) sliding around corners with our turbo cars and I always had the most fun driving my friend's WRX which is why Imma buy one...
Let me know if you guys know any fun places like that... Otherwise its the good old up-hill down-hill of the everday Wolfe Grade and Mt. Tam.

The thing about the WRX is that it is designed to be in the dirt, thats where this car will destroy most other compeition out there... too bad the STI comes with road tired eh?

Yeah you pretty much need to head a couple hours out of the immediate bay area to get to any roads that are even remotley safe to play on.
You should hook up with a navigator and come up north for Golden West 2006 in July (I haven't got the web page updated for this year yet, but this is turning into one of the classic "must attend" west coast TSD rallies)

This year it will be the weekend of July 8,9
I'm also looking to recruit people to do course opening for events like Laughlin International Rally in November, you'll need someone with a HAM radio riding along, but its a chance to take your street car out on real rally roads that are closed- and you can even buy stage notes...

Ha, I'd love to see you climbing those switchbacks anywhere close to 60, a lot of that road is 1st-2nd gear stuff...

its not that bad, about 8-9 hours each way, you did buy the car to drive after all -right?
I wind up making the trip like 4-5 times, between course survey, route books and stage notes, then I get to run the rally course 3 times between recce, arrowing and course opening, although this next year I'll need to be hanging out at net control during the rally.

Honestly.... if you take your time and are cautious you aren't going to slam into anything... most important thing is finding a good safe area with minimal obstructions.... and ALWAYS do a walk over of the area if you can or do a slow drive through to make mental notes of problem areas... I mean a real rally racer a "reel" or "navigator" who scouts the track and has an itinerary of the track. It's really important to know where you are driving.
