Did y'all get your Drive Performance 1.1 Magazine?

The magazine's primary effort is to push SPT parts. Although nothing is wrong with SPT parts, as they are made by reputable aftermarket companies, the information can be restricted and slanted to sell their own products. Several articles were objective and informative, of course, such as the ones on Subaru's origin in international rallying, the STi 6-speed tranny, and the respectful bit on Possum.
I didn't find that the article on autocrossing in anyway contradictive to Subaru's stance on not covering a broken transmission, for a seperate article in the same magazine clearly stated a "broken transmission" as being a result of drag racing. In the case of any broken transmission, the burdence-of-proof still falls on SOA to prove that it's broken because you dragged your car; the statement therefore is likely an effort to deter idiots from seeking coverage after they dragged their hell out of their subys.
In fact, it was good that the magazine has a write-up about participating in AutoXing because this introduces new people to this wonderful sport/competition and helps draw new members support to the SCCA.
Of course, if you race your car against the clock (in AutoX), stress is invariably added to its components; but, a good driver can control how much stress is imposed throughout the course of a run. If you haven't mastered the skills of heel-toeing, double-clutching, and rev-matching, you may want to hold off on AutoXing and get more practice. Additionally, I'm not sure if dropping the clutch and dragging from the starting line is the best method in this race; there are so many other variables to acheiving a good time than to drag from the start. Drop a clutch in a four-wheel drive and you're garaunteed transmission problems and no warranty from Subaru. It's only fair. You play you pay, and Subaru expects you to know this, even if they write an article about AutoX.
Overall, the magazine is alright, and perhaps a bit bias, but the fact that it's free it's actually a cool mag to pull out of your mailbox. I look forward to the next copy, perhaps with a few more pages than the premier.
