but it's soooo different than what I'm used to on the PC. I don't think I have the time to learn a new system

It's really not all that different. I just switched by buying a 20" G5 iMac about two months ago and was perfectly efficient on it within a week. The user interface of OS X isn't really that much different from any linux/wintel system and what is different is dramatically better. I sold an AMD 64 system to buy this, and this iMac whomps on the AMD system (with the obvious exception of gaming.) If I were you though, I wouldn't get the 17" powerbook. I would get a 20" iMac fully loaded for about $2200, and then buy a used 12" iBook for about $750. That way you get a desktop that is much more powerful than the powerbook, and a tiny little iBook for those times when you really need to be on the go, all for about $100 less than the PB.
