defi control unit wiring question

ok so im tryin to put in my control unit but the manual instructions are sorta vague as to exactly which wires on my car go to which wires on the harness. defi calls each wire one thing, and my crutchfield reference of my stereo harness calls it another plus theyre all different colors. can someone help me out? this is what i think these equate to...
defi..................=crutchfield
red:battery =red:"12 volts switched power"??
orange:ignition =yellow:"12 volts constant power"??
white:illum. =orange:illumination, ok i get that..
black:ground =black:ground...right

so the question is are those first two connections correct? i feel like ignition is switched power and battery is constant...but who knows im not particularly good with electronics. thanks in advance.

you said you were wiring through the radio harness? i messed around for about an hour before i finally listened to cKevin at AutoHQ and wired it through the clock on the dash...yeah that only took ten mins. it was extremely easy and the four wires for the control unit match the four for the clock. when you look under the clock, after you pull it out, its tells you which color is what. good luck

If you have an oil pressure guage, wiring it in the clock would make you not enjoy the radio when parked. It will beep till you get pressure on it.

so should i wire it to my radio harness or the clock? and if i should wire it to the harness does anyone know if my connections above are correct?

on a side note...will it hurt the unit if i turn it on or try to turn it on with incorrect wiring?

the control unit owill not work unless it is wired properly. if any of the wires are in the wrong place it flashes and lets you know. look in the manual to find out which one.

Always unplug your battery before wiring anything. If you wire it wrong or touch the wires together with the battery connected then you might blow the radio/clock fuse. So if you know you have it wired correct and it doesnt work, check the 15A fuse in the engine bay for "Radio/Clock"

I wired mine to the clock harness, no reason not to. If you don't have the car on but the power on the pressure gauge will beep. However, just record the gauges the first time you drive and whenever you want to listen to music just hit play and then pause the recording. It will stop the buzzing.

No problem.
I used the same thing, made install easy. The pain is routing the wires underneath the dash.

so, if I connect the IGN wire from the control unit to the ACC wire from the clock location, the gauges wont beep when I have the car turned to ACC to listen to the radio?

if you wire it the way I posted no. I have two defi link series gauges (EGT & boost) and they just doe the single sweep then sit idle.
