computer halp
So got my laptop somewhat up and running. Reinstalled Vista and started fresh with everything.
Last night i think i installed all the drivers but im still not able to use the scrolling option on my mouse pad. Vertical or horizontal.
I installed Synaptics TouchPad driver and started to follow these instuctions from HP (I have an HP Pavilion dv4-1145go Entertainment Notebook PC)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=3795305
Once i open up the device settings tab i dont see anything for "Properties for Synaptics TouchPad window, expand the Tapping topic."
and on the drivers listed from HP under Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices I dont see anything for synaptics (unless im blind and/or under a different name).

Set up tapping preferences
If the Synaptics TouchPad is installed on your machine, follow the steps below to learn more about tapping and customize these settings for your use.
1) Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize > Mouse Pointers . The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
Alternately, click Start and type Mouse in the Search field, and select Mouse
when it becomes available in the program list. The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
2)Select the Device Settings tab. Select the Synaptics TouchPad device and click Settings . In the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad window, expand the Tapping topic.
3)Select Tap and Drag , and read the information provided on how to set this option to drag items on your desktop by using the touchpad. The default setting is on.
4)Expand the Tap Zones topic, and read the information provided on how to set up your touchpad to conduct different actions, depending on where you tap on the pad. The default setting is off

yo
did you install synaptics driver or hp's synaptic driver?
if you installed synaptics, there will probably be a seperate place to ajust you settings.
if hp's than you should see what they are saying.
possibly there is a "utility" that u can download to update your computer "automatically".
they MUST have a driver if they put it in there machine. possibly google the device and drivers for hp, and see if it drills down to hps site. goggle is often WAY better than companies own site engines.
if i lived near you, i would just fix it. i do this day in day out. i have 4 comps to rebuild this weekend....
josh
PS the "automatic" feature will rload all ur bloatware, so be forewarned....

i checked the HP site but i dont see a driver for it, these are all the listed ones for my comp:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...oduct=3795305#
and really i searched google for hours yesterday! People kept saying all the sudden theirs turned off, were told to go in and enable these settings and good to go. But i dont have those settings
When i downloaded the synaptic driver it did add more options in the mouse window but not the ones that i need to get to.
i remember when i first got the comp from the store, it had the vertical scroll already working and i went in and played with the options and got the horizontal to start working as well. Now nothing.
I searched my comp for "synaptic" to see if the driver went somewhere else or there is another place to mess with the settings and it didnt come back with any results. Ive already installed synaptic messed with it and had no luck, uninstalled it and tried again.

you are able to install most everything. but changing anything that has to do with the file system you have to get into the "next level". forgive me as i do not know for sure if it will fix your problem. but i just thought you should check it out, see if it helps you.
sorry if it didnt.
