Competent Mechanics/Repair Shops in Bay Area/Marin?
Just moved here from Los Angeles driving my lovely '95 Sube ... and my "Check Engine" light went on 1/2 way up the I-5 and hasn't gone off!! Anyone know a sharp Subaru mechanic/repair shop? I'm in San Rafael, northern part of the county but will travel to see an expert. I learned the hard way it saves time and money to take the car FIRST to a Sube specialist ...

Just in case you missed it, LIC is the ONLY place in the North Bay to take your car...especially if you love your car. I can't think of another shop in NorCal that I'd trust more than them. There's only one other shop in the United States that I trust nearly as much...and they're in Monrovia, CA.
I send people over there from the dealership when they want the job done right the first time at a reasonable price, with attention to detail and specialists who work ONLY on Subarus.
I get a significant discount on the labor rate at the dealership, and I won't trust them to change the oil. LIC on the other hand fixes only fixes things two ways: Right, and the FIRST TIME.

3 things I miss about LA: lots of Trader Joes close by, lots of cheap good Mexican food, and Suby Specialties. (All the same, I'd rather be here.)
I learned my lesson!! Thanks to everyone for the tip. It's LIC for me.

You got LIC in Novato, Trader Joes and good mexican food in San Rafael (Taqueria San Jose under the freeway comes to mind)....
Why go anywhere else?
