I had a similar experience where a cop gave me a ticket for blowing through the stop sign on De Anza campus at the end of the loop around campus if you go clockwise around it, right before you go left to the streetlight at Stevens Creek/85 intersection. I had just picked up my gf from class, and I came to a definite and complete stop at the sign. After I turned left and pulled about 30yds away from the sign the cop (who was going the other way around the campus road) lit me up, he lied straight to my face, and wrote me the ticket. What am I supposed to do, show up in court with my girlfriend as a witness? There is no reasonable argument to make.

The ticket wasn't too big of a deal at the time since it was my only one. Then I got my EMT license, and realized I couldn't work in the field for the next several years because no ambulance would hire me with a point on my record. If I knew that sooner, I might have tried to fight it even thought I had no chance.

All that said... I don't hate cops. I've had hundreds of interactions with police officers both as an EMT and as a private citizen, and for the most part they are people just like any other. I have respect for law enforcement and it pisses me off to no end when some ***** like this guy takes advantage of the profession and the powers it allows him. People who are supposed to be role models and enforcers of the rules should be punished MORE severely if they break them, not less.

+1 to the punish more severely or the least they should've done was fire him and not let him
get any law enforcement job ever

That is absolutely rediculous. I see more and more cops speeding and swearving through traffic with no lights or sirens. NBC's Investigative Unit is doing a story this week about cops being "above the law" while driving.

Update: Watched the show. Biggest take away, chp reported that bay area police as well as chp are the cause of one collision every two days due to being distracted while driving. Please don't mistake the information I'm giving as me being a cop hater, I have had many run in's with law enforcement and most of them I probably deserved what I got. I have just seen a recent trend of police driving, from an outward appearance, recklessly for no apparent reason.
