A Sacramento County sheriff's deputy was traveling 107 miles per hour moments before crashing into a Subaru Impreza in March, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.

The report, released Wednesday, details the crash on Watt Avenue.
Deputy Ruben Pena was looking down at his computer for an alert.
When he looked up, it was too late to avoid the collision, according to the CHP report.
Pena was able to slow down to 98 mph at the time of the impact with the Subaru, which was turning left onto Northrop Avenue.
The driver of that car, Thomas Vasquez, suffered broken ribs and back injuries.
Pena and his K-9 officer were taken to a hospital but not seriously injured.
The report also says Pena told the CHP officer on scene he was going 70 mph at the time of the crash.
But as investigators looked at the camera on the deputy’s vehicle, they discovered he was going 107 mph without lights or sirens activated.
Pena was responding to a call of grand theft, according to the report, but a source within law enforcement told KCRA 3 the deputy was out on a stolen bike call.
The department will not talk about any disciplinary action taken against the deputy.
“I can tell you he is still employed by our agency,” Sheriff's Department spokesman Jason Ramos said. “With respect to anything more specific about his assignment, that falls under a personnel category that we don’t speak to.”
The attorney for the victim, Clay Arnold, told KCRA 3 that Vasquez just returned to work, but may have lasting brain injuries.
Arnold said the deputy was acting with complete disregard for safety.
"We have a fellow here that was going a 107 mph, blowing through a red light while looking at a computer with no lights on -- and no real emergency to call for it," Arnold said.

Its a ****ing miracle that the kid he hit isn't dead, WHY IS THE PIG STILL EMPLOYED?!
I bet if I hit someone while going 100mph and nearly killed them it would immediately be decided that I was grossly negligent, and I would promptly be ****ed sideways by the long dick of the law.

There are good cops like the guy in NY who bought the homeless man shoes and theres pigs like this. IF it was the Subaru driver who hit him the driver would be doing jail time. Just because he is a cop he can get out of this? Its BS

feel bad for the dude in the impreza.
i know these cops take safety classes and defensive driving classes...but is there really a need to be going 107 mph?????
there are good cops and bad cops but the story above is one reason why i am not a big fan of them.

The situation is indeed tragic and I wish both parties as full of mental/physical recovery as possible.
That said, we will never know 100% both sides of the situation, so put the pitchfoks away. Was the impreza speeding? Was its turn legal? Did he see the officer approaching (lights or not) and still chose to turn? Was he paying attention or was he looking down at his phone? Was he driving impared?
I am not defending the cop, but we also don't know everything to issue a judgement beyond all resonable doubt.
FYI: I haven't watched the video yet, as my client blocks any type of media streaming.

lol even if he was called, you wouldn't be going or need to go 107 mph on the street. the cop was just asking for trouble because you know using a handheld device while driving is illegal, but using a laptop at 107mph is perfectly fine.

Further proof that law enforcement officials are above the law themselves. A regular citizen would be spending lots of quality time in jail and paying a ton of lawyer fees if they did this.

This makes me sad. The officer should not have been going that fast on Watt ave. Sure its a wide straight street but that is way to fast. Endangering the public to serve and protect said public. I am glad there is no loss of life but that LEO was WRONG to be driving like an asshat!
