$10 per tire. Is this worth it for an AWD car? Supposdely if the tire is damaged, they can replace it for free.

Your spare tire is a temporary solution. Unfortunately, more often than not, the tire cannot be repaired and must be replaced. Now imagine this happening while there is still plenty of life left in the tire. Having to pay for a tire twice would frustrate anyone.

How am I covered?
In the event one or more of your tires fail due to defect, or incurs damage that cannot be repaired, Discount Tire Direct will replace it absolutely FREE, (this includes freight to you). Regardless of the number of miles you put on the tires, you will be covered for the life of the original tread down to 3/32" remaining, or 3 years from the date of purchase. We have been offering this warranty for over 30 years. This Certificate for Free Replacement is unbeatable in the tire industry!

How do I redeem the Certificate for Free Replacement?
There are two convenient ways you can redeem this certificate:

1) Call any sales agent at Discount Tire Direct, tell them you had a tire problem and are covered under our Certificate for Free Replacement. A replacement* tire will be sent to you free of charge. At that time, you do have the option to purchase the Certificate for Free Replacement for the replacement tire.
Note: Discount Tire Direct reserves the right to have damaged tires returned for inspection.** This will be at the owner's expense.

2) You can go to any Discount Tire Company/America's Tire Company retail store. Their friendly staff will be happy to help you to get the replacement* tire you need.

Can I purchase the Certificate for Free Replacement after I buy tires?
If you have not purchased the Certificate for Free Replacement for your new tires, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to do so. You can do this by giving our courteous staff a call at 888-852-7476. Tell them you would like to buy the Certificate for Free Replacement for your tires. Remember, the sooner you call, the sooner you will be covered!

What do the Certificates for Free Replacement not cover?
Abnormal tire wear. Reasons for abnormal wear include a vehicle being out of alignment, suspension problems or improper tire inflation.

Damage caused by collision, vandalism, or willful abuse.

"Cupping" due to lack of rotation. Tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.

Tire(s) worn past the wear bar.

Labor in regards to mounting, balancing or bolting on of new tire(s).

In what states are the retail outlets located?
Our parent company has outlets in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

*In the event the registered tire is discontinued or not available, a tire of similar value will be substituted.

**Please read "What is not covered" regarding inspection. Tires returned for inspection must pass those guidelines for credit to be issued.
Not sure if its worth it for a tire, since all 4 tires need to be within 1/4 inch of each other.

Thoughts?

I just ordered tires the other day and I didn't get them. I didn't get the free tire replacement certificates. Maybe I should have.

Thumbs up

My 2 cents..

I have been buying all my tires from americas tires.. best place to buy tires..

I would get the certificates if i were you. It has always worked out in my favor. I had either a nail in my tire or something like that. Also if something does happen to the tire and they cant fix it, the warranty will cover the cost of a new tire, mind that you pay the cost of a new certificate ($15-20) per certificate.

Also they will pro rate the other tires that were not damaged. All in all it is the worth the extra 10-20 dollars per tire!!

when I used to get my tires from them I always got them. One time I knicked a curb and a few miles later my tire blew and 1/3rd of the sidewall was shredded.....and they replaced it.

I always get them as well. Even if you blow a tire down the line and need to replace all 4, you can either get your one tire free and shave it down to match. or get the one free and buy 3. Otherwise you have to buy 4 new ones.

You guys make a really good point. I wonder if I can still get a free tire certificate from them. I am really short on money at the moment, but I won't be putting them on until next week.

IMHO, the certs are not a great deal. Considering the company LOVES it when people purchase certs. I used to work there, and they make a lot of money selling just certs. The certs would be good with any car except AWD, due to the fact we need to be within 2/32s of an inch of tread depth.

Why do I say this? Because buying 4 usually costs maybe only $10-20 from the price of a brand new tire and if we go through more than 20% of the tire, we need to buy all 4 of them anyway. What I'd rather do, is get a tire with a mileage warranty (mind you, there are VERY few V rated tires with warranties). I'd much rather do this because each tire gets prorated which means the % of tread you have left, goes towards your next set of tires of the same brand. For example, if you went through 40% of your tires, your next set would be 60% off. Prorating a warrantied tire can be applied to all 4 tires you have, and therefore will save a lot more money that buying the ripoff certs anyday.

I work there, 7 out of 10 flat repair we do are not good.. meanin the tire needs to be replaced. people without cert's have to spend money out of there pocket for a new tire, or you could have cert's and get it replaced for the ten or so dollars you paid for the cert. believe me.... they are worth the extra $50.

I have always gotten the Cert and have always gotten my money's worth. Of course that was on my 4WD Exploder which saw a lot of extra-curicular driving. Once I understeered right past an apartment entrance into thier lawn. I had let up on the brakes just before going over the curb. It blew out both front tires, I had it towed to the nearest America's Tire outlet and they threw on two new tires no questions asked. Even though both rims had kinda funny marks on them and grass stuffed between the rim and the tire.

I did blow out one on my WRX on the highway but they did not have to shave it down, it was right after I had them put on ~1 month.

I bought the Cert again after each blow-out that did not really pay off but it was nice to know I wouldn't have to shell out $250 if I hit something.

i used to work at ATC too, but i think the certs are worth it ONLY if youre purchasing some expensive tires( say $150 and up). if the tires youre buying are only 100 bucks each or less, save your cash, b/c like sti-owns0evo said, theyll always prorate your good tires and give u a discount on 3 tires and then you just buy 1 tire at full price.

I just used it. They don't tell you the fine print though. I had 3 nails/screws in the same tire and you can only fix it twice. No problem they will replace that tire for free, but the gotcha is that you cannot replace one tire on an AWD subaru, you MUST replace all 4, or have the one being replaced shaved(tirerack will shave them), the other three tires get pro-rated. Mine were two years old with 30k miles on them, so they gave me like $30 a tire for the other 3 towards new tires. He said if it was under a certain mileage(can't remember) that it would have been covered 100%

edit* just read the rest of the thread, I guess I just repeated what everyone else has said
