I would say run a catted downpipe with something like a Borla Hush or Maddad whisper. Look stock and still sound good. They attract a lot less attention, and if you run E85, you are undoubtedly gonna pass any sniffer test they give you. Of course, you may find ******* cops who check for cats, in which case you'll be f'ed anyway since it's not the stock DP, but you shouldn't get pulled over if you aren't speeding.

People have a lot of trouble with this concept:
If an after-market drivetrain part does not have an CARB EO number, it's not legal

Actually, I think the biggest benefits to an aftermarket catted downpipe are (i) the lack of smell, and (ii) the fact that you can still pass smog, at least the sniffer portion.
If you've ever been around a catless car, you'll notice the smell immediately. It's very potent, and if you're familiar with that smell, you'll know right away that the car is catless. In terms of attracting unwanted attention, this can be a very big deal. For example, let's say youre at a stoplight and a cop is behind you - while your exhaust may not be very loud, if he knows what a catless car smells like, you're probably going to get pulled over/ticketed. At least with a catted downpipe, you don't have to worry about this so much.
Also, in terms of smog, if you're catless, you will have to swap back your stock downpipe before going to get your car smogged. With an aftermarket catted downpipe, odds are, you can probably pass the sniffer portion without having to swap back in your stock downpipe.

And if anyone is super paranoid, some aftermarket downpipes are able to fit inside the stock downpipe heatshield. Unbolt stock downpipe heatshield and bolt it on top of the aftermarket downpipe
