I haven't used royal purple but I have used castrol edge for the last 6 oil changed and it seems to hold up better than anything else I have ever used.

Think with yer dipstick jimmy!

If you're the exception, more power to you to be able to use Mobil 1 safely, but our motors are not exactly the most quality built motors are differ significantly from the factory. However, I don't want to pay the $ for an oil that has a high chance to shear down to an unsafe weight for my motor in 3k miles, when there are plenty of other cheaper choices which can last in my car for over 7k miles.

To the OP, if you want a common oil that is easily accessible, I'd recommend Rotella T synthetic 5w-40 weight. Available at every WalMart I've looked for it. Plenty of great UOAs on NASIOC and bobistheoilguy.

The above is the truth. I could post my own UOA, as well as about a thousand from other suby owners...personally, I have been through most of the top synthetic oils, and Rotella consistantly tests well at 4k change intervals. Redline is good, and if GST says Total is great then I believe them, but for a DD 5w40 Rotella is the way to go.

Otherwise I will just say that it is the best oil for the price, and it is readily available.

yeah I was burning an extra qt between oil changes in my vette (extra meaning 2 qts, its a known given that an LS motor over 40K miles will eat a qt of oil every 7500 miles no mater what but not two) with mobile 1, switched to Amsoil and now at 55K miles and back to 1 qt between oil changes

Never used Amsoil engine oil but have great experience with Amsoil tranny gear oil. My 1st gear was grinding before....after I started using Amsoil gear fluid 75/90 problem is gone and 1st gear works like brand new. I was always using Mobil 1. Next oil change I'm gonna go with Amsoil

A lot of Rotella and Amsoil recommendations. I think I'll go with Rotella since GST uses it. The first oil change that I did since purchasing the car was with Mobil 1 5w30, but I may purchase a dozen quarts of Rotella to see how it works out. The car is my DD.

Like I said in the other oil thread, the filter is the #1 thing to spend money on. A great filter can overcome oil's shortcoming. As a example I change the filter on my 4runner at 3000, but the oil (mobil 1) at 6000 and have no problems at all, but that is in a upright 7m-gte not a boxer motor like the subies have.

GST uses Total in the L, unless they changed or you are talking about something else...

Regular Amsoil is good oil as well, as is Redline, except I burnt through a quart of the 5w40 Euro Blend every 4k miles, and it sheered down to a 30 weight...just like RP and Mobile 1 sheer down to a 20 weight. Again, Rotella rocks for the $$

I changed wrx engine oil two days ago. Noticed about one quart less. Now, changing mobile 1 to castrol synthetic. Was on sale at autozone. By the way what is difference between castrol syntec and castrol edge?

We use nothing but Total in our personal and track cars, we use the Total Quartz 5/30 in street cars and Total racing 10/50 in the race cars.

I personally have used just about every commercially available oil out there and found none hold a candle to the Total oils.

I just got a Blackstone report back from the tired 3 year old race motor from the L (has had multiple refreshes on this motor to the extent it's not rebuildable anymore) the report came back stella!
