Royal Purple is garbage, save some money...**** into a quart bottle then pour it into your engine. Castrol Edge...well I would pick that over Royal Purple but once again save money...
If you want an "affordable" and available anywhere oil just use Mobil 1. I would recommend switching to a 10W-30 weight as this helps with natural boxer motor oil consumption and natural "loud" valvetrain noise that Subaru vehicles are also known for. It will not hurt anything to run the thicker weight as we do not live in any extreme climates.
But hey what do I know right...

I've been using Castrol edge for my last two changes. Before that I have been using just plain Castrol synthetic. Didn't really notice any difference between the two, but I have had no problems at all and don't burn any oil either.
Stage 2 07 WRX with lots of other mods and 39k as of now.

heres from the other retarded oil thread here...
Instead of just shooting in the dark and running oil ____ cause so and so said its awesome... Try sending your oils to a lab.. Its like $25, no biggie, then you dont have to trust all the garbage thats splattered all over message boards..... In which one thing I can assure you of... Mobile 1 is completely fine for 99% of people. Is there "better" stuff? Yeah depending on what you do with it, but few to no other oils will cause less wear if you actually change it regularly....
BTW, my car.. Mobile 1 only cause its cheap and works great.. over 15k on my motor pushing over 30psi on e85(which breaks oil down) and the three labs I have run have all come back great.

I can assure you Mobil 1 is NOT fine for 99% of Subaru users, and yes, this is based off of UOAs. There are plenty of UOAs that show Mobil 1 5w-30 and 10w-30 have sheared down to a 20 weight in a 3k mile interval. If you're the exception, more power to you to be able to use Mobil 1 safely, but our motors are not exactly the most quality built motors are differ significantly from the factory. However, I don't want to pay the $ for an oil that has a high chance to shear down to an unsafe weight for my motor in 3k miles, when there are plenty of other cheaper choices which can last in my car for over 7k miles.
To the OP, if you want a common oil that is easily accessible, I'd recommend Rotella T synthetic 5w-40 weight. Available at every WalMart I've looked for it. Plenty of great UOAs on NASIOC and bobistheoilguy.

I worked at a shop that tested plenty of oils with Blackstone Labs...best oil for a decent price is Total but is is hard to find, lubrify.com located in Dublin sells it and so does GST Motorsports located in Hayward.
My opinion is based on experience and those experiences of other trusted tuners who know what they are doing. Take it or leave it.

Royal Purple is a very thin based oil not to mention it looks like oil you would normally take out of your car not put in your car new. You notice that Royal Purple states you will make more power just from their oil...yeah thats cause it is so thin it actually generates more power but not exactly ideal for your engine.
