Car was repainted-why..?

So i bought my STi about a year ago. Didnt bring it to a shop or anything. Today i brought it into a shop for service and the guy told me its been repainted. He looked at every panel on the car and can see minor orange peel and stuff. There is nothing on carfax and I can't see signs of any accident. The guy has been in the business for 20 years and he cant see signs of accidents either. All body panels line up correctly

Im thinking it might have been keyed or something.. Any insights? I bought the car for 22k which was blue book value at the time. The guy who looked at my car said the paint job looks like it cost 7-8k and i dont see why someone would spend that money to sell the car for just 22k. That means they got like 15k for the car.

Please give opinions thanks.

We don't guess body work ever. There are 900 reasons why the repaint could occur and none of our guesses will ever give you the right answer. Could be girlfriend beat up his car, could be OCD, could be he buddy worked a MAACO and needed practice. Know next time that a paid professional inspection is the key to sold used car ownership. Carfax is for fat women who don't know crap about cars as it makes them feel good....remember that.

see what i did there...

I kinda agree with unabomber, there is no real way to tell with out looking under the paint. You can use a refrigerator magnet to look for deep bondo.

It Could be a crappy paint job from the factory. There is orange peel on my car and its never been repainted. Did you try asking the person you bought it from? Did your guy measure the thickness of the paint?

http://www.defelsko.com/applications...aint-meter.htm
that is how you measure.

If none of the panels look changed and theres no frame damage, I dont see why you're worried. If you work at a body shop, a paint job costs you very very little.
