Red face Captain's log 01112005

Awakend by a phone call approx. 8:30am hungry

aprrox. 9:00am begin eating breakfast.

approx. 9:15am done eating breakfast.

Lay down and watch MTV cribs and begin to feal sharp pains on the lower left part of my back. These were very sharp pains and I knew it wasnt a sore back problem. To my disbelief approx 2 hours into the very sharp pains my brother wakes up and tells me im passing a kidney stone(s).

approx. 12:00pm crying like a baby on the way to the hospital. Arrive to emergency room thinking im going to die.

sign in bla bla bla 1 hour passes and im pissed off then two men were rushed in from a construction sight who fell of the second story of a house they are working on. (a thought in the back of my head told me "your not bleeding calm down there are more serious cases than yours"

approx. 1:15pm I realize that I am bleeding. Flollowed by continued vomitting. went back to my wheele chair to wait to be seen.

approx 1:30pm go back to urinate and between 8-10 stones exited my urinary tract.

Pain dissapeared and I was fine, found no point to see a doctor in an emergency room. told my dad to go get my digital camera out of the car, took pictures of stones. and departed.

went home and made appointment to see family doc tomorrow.

Out of this entire ordeal I realized that today the 11th day in january 2005 I felt the most horrifying pain in the world and I hope none of you will ever have to go through what I went through today.

The End.
John

dood, did you get any bloody puke pics? ;x

My mom passed some kidney stones, then a big one stuck in her kidneys and had to be blasted out.
I thought she was going to die and so did she.

She described it as being torn open from the inside out. I can't imagine that kind of pain, but I am sure I would be crying like a baby.

Advice: Drink more water, less crap.

It's a hereditary trait, but staying away from dairy products will help some. It's mostly in men, although a few women get it. It's easy for them to pass for obvious reasons Drink water as mentioned above.

Everything you wanted to know about kidney stones

Anyways, here's from the medical dictionary:

The exact cause of kidney stones is unknown, however, there are a number of factors that may put a person "at risk" for kidney stones. The risk factors include:

* age - more common during middle age

* gender - three times more common in men than in women

* diet - eating a diet high in green vegetables, fat, diary products, salt and brewed tea

* a family hist history of kidney stones

* recurring urinary tract infections

* reduced water intake

* kidney disorders, such as cystic kidney diseases

* metabolic disturbances, such as bowel, endocrine and kidney problems

* genetic disorders, such as gout (a type of arthritis or inflammation about a joint caused by excess uric acid in the blood), cystinuria, primary hyperoxaluria and renal tubular acidosis (a condition in which the kidneys are unable to excrete normal amounts of acid)

* excess intake of vitamins C and D

* blockage of the urinary tract

* medications, such as diuretics (water pills) or calcium-based antacids

* bed confinement

* alcohol consumption

Notes:

I found a study showing that consuming more than 1000 mg of Vitamin C causes stones.

I also found a study showing that eating more calcium reduced stones:

This happened to my girlfriend as well. We were in Sacramento at the Racetrack, when all of a sudden she began having pains. I didn't think much of it, but then she couldn't stand it anymore and started crying, and couldn't even move because it hurt so bad. We drove for 2 hours from Sacramento to her house, and then to the Hospital. After an hour and a half wait, the doctors took her in to examine her, found a urinary track disease, and scanner her for kidney stones and apparently she had them. They put her on pain killers and anti-biotics and she was fine, but she said it was the worst pain of her life as well.
