California next in a series of major earthquakes
Quote:
Former USGS Geologist Jim Berkland predicts a major earthquake in California this month.
Berkland has been known to predict quakes, his best being the 'World Series' quake in the 80s in the San Francisco Bay area. Berkland even had a bet with a news publication that it would actually happen.
Berkland is now back with his strongest prediction since the 80s on what he is calling a major earthquake to strike California with a window between March 19th and 26th.
The geologist says that 'moon proximity' and 'fish deaths and beachings are signs of massive earthquakes.

Since I don't know tons about earthquakes I can't really question him, just hope he wasn't one of the ones predicting a major earthquake months ago and nothing happened.
If I remember correctly, earthquakes relieve stress on the plates. And since there was just a massive earthquake between us and Japan (obviously closer to Japan), I would assume the plates near us are a little less stressed out than before. Could definitely be wrong though, I get things mixed up at times.

Yeah, basically the plates are moving in a direction and "tugging" at each other. The plate that is under moves in and is pulling the top plate down. Eventually, it is so stressed that it releases, kind of like when you flick something with your fingers, except millions of times bigger. You build the tension, and it is eventually released. When this happens in the ocean, it pushes the water up at massive speed, causing tsunamis. I think that's how it works -_-

Following the San Andreas fault line there will be a major quake within the next 30 years(so it's been speculated.) Could happen whenever really... it's a transform fault too so the granitic plutons are going to shear which causes the worst scenario of quakes.
