Well word out on the street is speculators are going to **** us on oil prices once again. Ans since the stock 5spd is supposed to be weak might as well kill 2 birds with one stone.

USDM - they lengthened the gears after '06.
The 04-06 USDM 6MT's are pretty similar to the 5MT's - you're sitting at about 3k at 70-75. A 6MT just has more gears to go through, the 6th gear is almost identical to the 5MT 5th.
JDM 6MT's are even worse - ask Krinkov. I think you're at almost 4k at 80.

Not a bugeye owner, but a driver of an Outback 5MT.
At 65MPH, already around 3000RPM!
At 80-ish MPH, a bit past 4000RPM.
At 90MPH, I think I'm hovering below 5000RPM? Can't remember...
But mine is a different story, since the rear diff on Outbacks and Foresters have slightly lower gearing for off-road purposes.

You also have to keep in mind that the engine needs to maintain a certain power to drive it thru the resistance of ground and air. A lot of people want the companies to 'add an extra gear' for better mileage but their 1.5liter Honda fits can't do 2k rpms at 75mph
