255/40/17 is perfect for your rims. I think I can fit em on my stockers as well. But for 125 a tire, the azenis 615s are the same price

great find!!! S0-3 is my fave tire! i run this tire on all my cars and bonus the tread wear is the best from any tire ive used. imo its the best year round tire avail for performance and wear.

I know the 215s couldn't handle rain at all, so I'm assuming that the s-03s would dominate the 615s in the rain as well. Also, the S-03s take heat a LOT better than Azenis could on a track (the true weakness of the 215 that was covered with the revision to the 615, but lost traction due to the new compound).

I too love the S-03s, but the road noise is killer, even with the sound system I have in my car, it's like driving over a bridge all day. Have you ever tried Pirelli PZeros? They get ~ 10k more miles than the S-03s but definately can't perform at the same levels, however they're much quieter, have a better ride, and still grip as much as you'll ever need for driving on the street.

toyo T1-S is another very nice WET+dry street performance tire......better treadwear & less roadnoise than S-03's too (had both) the toyos are a few lbs lighter per tire as well.

T1-S has been discontinued tho....T1-R is the new version

how are s-03's compared to re-050a's despite the better wet traction?

Fenders rolled or not? I'd go with 255/35's.

What's the point of road hazard protection if these tires are being discontinued? What will they replace them with?

235/40/18's. You might be able to get away w/ 245/40/18's but they might rub in the rear.
