Brake Fluid Recommendations (Daily Driver)

Hi,

For a sedan daily driver around town, east bay, no xroading or speeding whatsoever, it's for my wife's civic. She somehow went 120k without ever changing it?!

Anywho, doesn't have to be special, just last long and do it's job, no real super performance needed... although I still love SS lines (she doesn't have them nor needs 'em, but I like the stiffness!) Probably change it in another 30k.

ATE TPY200 as is does not suck in as much water content as Motul RBF600

Seconded.

I have no actual data to back up what I've heard, but supposedly the ATE Typ200 has additives that resist the moisture accumulation that brake fluid is known for.

For a normal street driven sedan, just use normal DOT 4 fluid from a parts store.
the only thing the expensive fluids get you is better heat tolerance... which you don't need

Have you tested it?

I'd test it before I go to change it. I'm still on my original fluid after 109k. But I've been testing it. I use one of
these these
.

If it is time to change, like Lowend said, if you need the bare minimum in braking, the bare minimum in fluid will suffice.

Every 3 years for me, even if the date stamp is every 5 on the brake lines. Better to be safe than sorry.

LxJLthr you are a retard. Brake lines and brake fluid are consumables.

For daily use Valvoline DOT4 Synthetic is good enough, I'll rather put my money in good brake pads such as Ferodo DS2500 as you can never have too much brakes.

...and so are tires, rotors, brake pads, batteries, belts, etc...do you change those with 40-50% life left? And anyone that know me personally, can attest that the entire vehicle including the shell is consumable to me At the end of the day, it is just a car.

Reread my statement, cupcake. I support using the correct product for the correct application at necessary intervals. Not all of us are filthy rich like you.
