They claim all this amazing free service, but they want to change your oil with 20k+ in between.
That is very true.

Also, my coworker has an 02 v6 accord and I helped him get a quote for a 90k from a buddy. He then showed me his owners manual and the maintainance intervals are crazy long and is missing like half of the tasks. It blew my mind! My favorite was change the air filter every 90k, flush the coolant at 120k, spark plugs at 120k, I can keep going.

overall, i'm disgusted but amazed that the car actually ran so long without an oil change. Doubt many cars can go as long....

I just read that whole thread. They used a cleaner called AutoRX, you add it to oil and change it on a schedule. All they did was clean out the top half of the motor by hand, add the cleaner and let it go. Supposedly they're looking at pulling the oil pan also, I imagine that's crudded to heck too.

Sounds like they managed to save it, and do so relatively inexpensively... but I doubt it will run as long as it would have had that not happened to it in the first place.

I need to show this to my lady, she's not too keen on car maintenance.

reminds me of the Toyota FWD V6 and 4cyl 5SFE engines they had from 94-2004. I think they looked like the about the same...and that was even with regular oil changes!

When I pulled the valve cover off my e36 m3 to change the vanos unit the head was still cleaner than his "after" picture, and mine had 90k miles without any sort of cleaning of foaming.

ATF is a great way to clean an engine that gunked up. I wonder why nobody on that Bimmer forum suggested it. Instead they used something called AutoRX instead?
