blown front diff? no power to front wheels....help

morning all

so, it snowed a bit up here in truckee this week (i got like 2 ft at the house). i have noticed as the weather got worse that my front traction was almost non existant. that became way more obvious today with a foot of snow on the ground. remember, 2005 sti, blizzaks, GC coilovers....

first i almost didnt make it outta my driveway. i had no front traction and the car seems to be pushing. also, everytime i hit the gas the rear end will come around. soooo, i put the car in front of a window outside work, and sure enough, the front wheels arent spinning what-so-ever (VERY icy out this morning). huh?

so with these 6-sp's, when they blow a front diff do they loose all power to the front? or is there some servo in this thing that just went bad i am screwed?

i did a quick search with not much luck. i am kinda looking for a quick reply here to figure out what i need to do.

thanks all!

josh

Does the DCCD lighting look normal?
If the front diff had failed, you'd hear all kinds of noise.
My vote goes to the center diff....which is ~$2000.

There are mech diffs, but it will conflict with the DCCD system.

Put the DCCD in LOCK and see if you get wheel spin.

yep. no wheel spin in front. i had the heavy equip mech from next door watch as i put power down. rears spin while front do nothing when locked.

looks like the sti just became a garage queen for a while.

damn, just when winter was ending too....

Well, we have a Subaru Select monitor here that can look at the tranny control.
