You can go to the Chinese MIT there and see the people who score highest in their high school science exams and then end up not going very far in life.

It's pretty hot with high humidity now overthere. Extra change of clothes maybe good to have.
Night markets usually fun -- lots local favor foods and small things to buy.
If you're in the city, a lot of shops, clubs, bars, pubs to keep you up all nights. They even have dentise offices open at 11pm. Tons of great places to shop from cheap to expensive designer brands.
Yap, bring some stomach med just incase too much of good food.
Just ask local people or checkout travel websites, you'll get much more useful information. Taiwan is actually pretty advance and a great place to visit.

Taiwan is fun if you know someone there. Lots of places to go see. Take a tour or something. The airport or hotels have tours of the areas. You can go hot springs and tons of nightlife around. I have to 2nd checking out the night markets as described earlier. Lots of good local foods and shopping at night.
Bring money as stuff in Taiwan is pretty expensive ... about the same prices as in the USA.

Its frickin' hot over there.. the humidity will eat you alive.. But its quite fun there if you know where to go. Hit me up if you want to know where the clubs are

Taipei hot ROFL. Ok sorry, used to spending months at a time on the equator in Malaysia.
Tons of stuff to do, relatively safe, but a bit hard to get around for an english speaking person sometimes. I've had to go through 3-4 cabs many times before I found one that knew what the hell I was talking about. The Ximen Din night market is pretty cool, still doesn't top the Temple Street market in HK, but it is pretty immense. Plenty of historical places to see, hiking, enough to keep you busy for quite some time. Just poke around on the web and see what sort of thing interest you. If is fairly warm and humid, so do dress accordingly. Right now it should be mid 70s to mid 80s, humid as hell, and rain every day. Lol yep -> http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/46686.html
Oh and the sex trade business is quite alive in Taiwan, albeit just as expensive as here, and even more illegal. It is easier to pick up a whorey **** than a slutty ***** though. If you're looking for company that doesn't require a usage fee, don't come off as a cocky "AMERICAN" and you'll do just fine.
