could be a fad.. idk

but if i biked a lot, i'd put the rack on and leave 'em on.. no point in taking 'em off and putting 'em back on each time i wanna go bike.. that's a pita

I heard that it's becoming a fad.

HOWEVER, I have it up there for a reason. I do have a mountain bike, and a Subaru + TREK (or TREK-associated bike) = Subaru/MTB awesomeness

We should ask these "JDM yo" bike rack people what bikes they have. xD If they don't have any they hang up there, that's when you know they have it up there for the fad.

Now that you mention it, I did just see a group of heavily modded Hondas rolling with bike racks. Is this some new level flush JDM thing?

i ride a lot and i always leave mine up, if i know i am not going to ride for a while ill take it off because of gas mileage, rack makes you get about 3 or 4 miles per gallon worse. but taking it on and off is definitely a pain and almost impossible if you are trying to do it alone. i do see a lot of noobs with bike racks that might ride every other month or so and just leave them on because they are either too lazy to take it off, or just want to look cool, i have got to say that i do like the look of the rack on top of my car.

i doubt people are just doing it for looks because those things are not cheap, esp for yakima or thule.

the cross bar setup alone cost a pretty penny, IIRC $150-200

then the racks itself, depending on which one at least $100, and they usually buy 2.

Plus lock cores.

The real thing is about how BIKING is now the fad, thus the influx in more racks. no one use to bike. fixies or whatever they are.

It's a fad.
A whole bunch of hipster kids do it here in Sac.
I laugh at them when I drive by in the Subaru.

I just want to say: "Hey. I have one too!! I actually USE mine though.... I don't see that slammed Integra anywhere but in a ditch off highway 50. Looks good tho d00d! HAH!"

but I'm not that mean....

It's the same fad that more people are spending a ton on bicycles they hardly ride, because bicycling is one of the most trendy things to do right now.

I think it is really catching on because someone somewhere said that if you have a rack on your car, it looks lower. Makes sense because you tent to see a lot of racks on the hella flush cars. I am also willing to bet that people do it so that they can sticker bomb the fairings to add a little more styling.

I've asked a person with a rack what kinda bike he had. He didn't have one! -__- I always took my rack off. Only time it was on is if I went out of town to ride.
