I haev a question on tire rotation. Besides taking off and switching the front and back tires and torque to the right specs, is there anything else needed like balancing the wheel? I'm getting my car realigned soon and I might as well just rotate the tires myself and get it realigned. Thanks.

wheels stay on same side of the car. Move fronts to rear, and rears to front.
Undo lugnuts in a star shape.
Tighten lugnuts in star shape again, re-torque in star shape to 70 foot-lbs.

67 FT./LBS. is the torque specification for stock Subaru lugnuts. It isn't the lugnuts themselves that are in danger when you overtighten (95-100 ft./lbs.), but it stretches the studs themselves, and brings them that much closer to metal fatigue and failure. I'll try to find the article written up on that specific issue.

You have to keep it on the same side, just swap front with rear.

eff discount tire/america tire co.
my mom went there today and they said her tires had to be replaced, and they only gave her a pro-rated refund for the tires guaranteed for 60k miles that only lasted 30k. They didnt even give her half the money back, only about 1/4-1/3.

Asymmetrics, as long as the tires were mounted on the wheel correctly can rotate in either directions. that is why you rotate criss cross front to rear.
