So would it be a good idea to mix Syncromesh with Redline Shockproof HD? My tranny is pretty old, so I think I would prefer Heavy Duty over LW.

I previously ran 100% Shockproof Heavy Duty which was definitely the best-shifting gear lube I have ever used (I've used a LOT), but it's very thick when cold and it's hard to shift until it warms up.
Hope that helps some. I wouldn't be preferential to the GM stuff over the Pennzoil....

Jon -- I'd just run straight HD. It's less slippery than the LW and it shifts very, very, very nicely on its own once you drive for a couple miles.
You should go in on the order from Summit w/ Jeff so you only have to pay one shipping fee ....btw, I have 1/2 quart of LW that you can have, Jeff. Get a new quart, add my half, put a quart of Synchromesh in, and fill it the rest of the way (~ 1.5 quarts) with OEM, lol. Quite the concoction!!!

heh, i read about syncro mesh from another i - club thread....
its pertty damn good.
my gears NEVER stick in the cold, and i can get into first easily w/ no grinding (slow roll that is).
I got my penzoil syncromesh from autozone on hamilton road, off of san tomas.
its cheap. 3.xx-4.xx.

oh theres also an Autozone in Union City off Alvarado Blvd. it's where Fremont Blvd ends and becomes Alvarado Blvd at 880, then go over the train tracks, and autozone is on the right.

Alright I picked up two quarts of the Valvoline 75w-90 at the Newark Kragen for $4.49ea and also went by Autozone in Union City to get a quart Penzoil synchromesh which was $4.99 There were still about 4 quarts left of the synchromesh. Just gotta get that Redline Shockproof and I'll be set.

ha ha, the reason i used syncromesh in the first place is because
Valvoline 75w-90 starting making my gears stick in the cold / grind.
Valvoline =
meh, It got better once i put about 1 qt of syncromesh.

Hey Jeremy,
Thatnks for the suggestion. My tranny takes about 5 quarts (4.8). What do you think of 3 quarts HD, one quart Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer and One quart Pennzoil Syncromesh?

Sure. Go nuts ..... I think it would treat you pretty well. I'd run the synthetic oil stabilizer though because it's more slippery. The HD and synchromesh are both un-slippery... I'd worry a touch about long-term bearing life with that combo... so I'd probably lean towards the synthetic version of the Lucas stuff instead of the dyno... (it says on the bottle of synth that it "improves gas mileage and lowers friction"... both statements mean the same thing actually... but it doesn't say that on the dyno stuff)

Just an update. On Tuesday I changed my tranny fluid with 1qt Redline HD shockproof, 1qt Synchromesh and the rest Valvoline 75w-90. Before I was running all Redline 75w-90. But I really gotta say, with this current mixture the car is shifting into gears much smoother than before. Upshifting and downshifting feel really nice now, whereas before it felt somewhat stiff going in even though I rev match and double clutch. I'd reccomend trying this out on your next tranny flush if you're running all OEM or all 75w-90.
