^^ That is why I will be using USDM GD aluminum control arms. They are about 10mm wider per side, but I can deal with that. Already swapping to GD subframes, so all will be good.

That's a much better bet, because then the bushing/fitment issues go away as well - the only thing is, you end up with really wide track. And, due to the width of the early Impreza chassis, without camber plates, you will have wild negative camber with that. If you have camber plates, and are planning on flares - it's clearly the hot setup. On top of that, you would want to "STi-ify" the rear end too to get the tracks back in shape. Having a narrower rear track than the front can make weird understeer things happen (so I have heard).

On top of all that, a coupe with STi or WRX sedan-width suspension and the flares to match looks SO HOT. That was my dream with the green car, so you better make it happen.

Yep, going with WRX or STI rear control arms...depending on sway bar choice. I have an extra Whiteline sway bar and end links, so I think that and some STi aluminum lat links may be my best bet

I think I may just get some flares now that you mention it.

If I use GD suspension the aggressive negative camber issue should not be as bad if it is still an issues at all.

|You are dead on with the track width: wider in rear to loosen up the rear, narrower in rear to tighten it up. Check this out.

Careful with that - it's the GD suspension parts on the narrower body that causes that issue. Think about it - you are using an x-member that bolts to either chassis (meaning the frame rail spacing is the same on both cars) but you are using control arms that create 20mm more track measured from mounting points that are the same on either car. The shock towers on the early Impreza are what comes into play here, and why you need camber plates to get rid of the excess negative camber. I could be missing something, but that is what I got out of it.

Good idea on the aluminum laterals. I went with the Whiteline just in case I needed the adjustability but they are HEAVY.

Also, I have a pic on another machine but AFAIK 240SX flares work great.

Thanks for the link - RCR is great, and the only place I go for alignments.

No, interchanging them will do wild things with the placement of the wheel - you would end up with waaay too much negative camber, or too much caster, or who knows what depending on what flavor of wrong.

Honestly the prices you see advertised for these arms are usually fair. There are probably a few sets on eBay right now in the $350-$400 range. If you tried to do this with new parts from the dealer you would be in them well over $600. "Cheap bastard" doesn't work with these arms to be fair because in almost every case, someone had to work hard or pay $$ or both to get them. Your post seemed to read sort of like this: "Hey I see you are doing a bunch of work on your car, wanna do a little bit more so that you can give me $350?" I know you didn't mean it like that, but you know what I'm sayin.
Sorry if it came off that way. I thought they were a lot more common and interchangeable than they apparently are. I definitely wasn't trying to rob anyone I'm all for fair market value and just thought that you were going to throw them on the rolling chassis as an added bonus, in which case I could save you the effort of putting them on the car.

No worries at all, and at the end of this - I will definitely have a spare set, so we can work something out. I might put the pretty ones on the car, who knows.

Good stuff. I don't need pretty anything on this car, so let me know.
