Bay Area Baller - Rickey Henderson HOF nom
Rickey Henderson, my favorite player of all time, got his HOF nomination recently. No doubt he will be a first rounder. I personally think he should get 100% of the vote. This is just a thread to celebrate his awesomeness. Some stats-
1990 MVP
Gold Glove Left Field
1406 Stolen Bases
100+ Stolen bases in each of 3 seasons
100 more runs in a season *13* times
2 World Championships (OAKLAND *****!!!!!!!)
.399 BA in World Series
here are some walk stats from Sports Illustrated-
1. Barry Bonds, 2,558 walks
2. Rickey Henderson, 2,190 walks
3. Babe Ruth, 2062 walks
4. Ted Williams, 2,021 walks
Now.. UNINTENTIONAL walks-
1. Rickey Henderson, 2,129 walks
2. Babe Ruth, 2,062 walks
3. Ted Williams, 1,935 walks
4. Barry Bonds, 1,870 walks
5. Joe Morgan, 1,789 walks
Wow. For a leadoff hitter who steals bases like wall street CEO's steal money??
Awesome
Some Rickey Quotes-
During a contract holdout with Oakland in the early 1990s: "If they want to pay me like Mike Gallego, I'll play like Gallego."
In a phone message left for San Diego Padres General Manager Kevin Towers: "This is Rickey calling on behalf of Rickey. Rickey wants to play baseball."
When searching for a seat on the Padres team bus, he was told by Steve Finley, "You have tenure, sit wherever you want," Henderson replied: "Ten years? Rickey's been playing at least 16, 17 years."
Telling New York Yankees teammates that his condo had such a great view he could see the "Entire State Building."
And when a reporter asked Henderson if Ken Caminiti's estimate that 50% of big league players were taking steroids was accurate, Henderson replied: "Well, Rickey's not one of them, so that's 49% right there."

NICE!!!
Wow, has it been so long? Man I haven't followed baseball at all since the mid 90's, but as a kid I had all of Ricky's rookie cards from all the card manufacturers. Was Ricky, Jose Canseco and McGuire tearin' it up for the A's
I hope they'll be worth something when he becomes a HOFer

He was and is my favorite player...ever!
I remember as a kid getting his autograph at one of the conventions. He was the only player who would shake your hand, ask what position you play or some other question. He gave every kid his full attention, unlike others who would talk to their buddy while signing and not even look at you.
Big ups to Ricky!

Rickey's my older bro's all-time fAve. And not just because they share the same birthday, which is exactly a week away.
Gotta love some of those quotes, too, eh? There's no doubt in the attitude & flair there. He's da man!

No one has ever gotten 100% of the vote. Someone got close, missed just like 4 votes. I'm hoping Rickey gets it.
Another quote, from a coach who's name I forget, when asked if Rickey was a HOF quality player-
"If you could split Rickey in half, you would have 2 Hall of Famers"
