BAIC SUSHI: Has anyone been to Sebo in SF?

I've heard some great things about this place, and after seeing it on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, I really want to try it!

Since we have a ton of SF dwellers here, can anyone voice their opinions on the place? Anyone been there?

Here's the segment from No Reservations in case you've never heard of it... Warning, it will make you hungry, especially if you're a sushi fan!

Agreed, it's a REALLY great show... I really enjoy watching it. I love travel shows that go to places that are off the beaten path. There have been some REALLY great episodes, and one of my fav's was when he went to Turkey (Istanbul).

If you like NR, you'll love the show called "Globe Trekker", it's on KTEH/PBS and is all about going to uncommon places/places that no other travel shows dare to venture to. You should really check it out if you haven't already! It's also solely sponsored by Subaru!

you mean Gorilla BBQ? if so i believe that on was Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. also, i didn't think they were that amazing. they are good for bbq on that side of the bay area, but there are much better places in the east bay.

I have been to Sebo and Gorilla BBQ, for that matter. Sebo is awesome! Its a bit on the pricey side but you cannot go wrong with a place that flies the fish in fresh daily... and you order whatever they have that night until they run out. Everything about that place is good... its def the freshist fish I have had. I'm going to eat at morimoto's new place in yountville soon... I just have to find the time.

Sebo is overpriced comparatively, the only attraction is the blue fin tuna, but I can live without it...

How about Aka Tombo Sushi?

The shrimp were still moving when he cut them up for our sushi...any fresher, and we'd have had to been pulling them out of the ocean ourselves.

Aka Tombo is impressive.

Benihana, not so much.

Sebo, never tried it. It sounds racist, but I won't sushi that's not prepared by properly trained Japanese itamae (sushi chefs). Hell, I won't even eat sushi made by an untrained Japanese person. I didn't used to be this ****, but I got really sick once up on a time and have been a sushi **** ever since.

..but...but Chris Cosentino and Tony Bourdain co-signed this place! Hey, at the beginning of the meal, even Bourdain had the same reservations. Afterall, the dude must've ran back to Japan 2-3 times in past seasons. Like the one time he went to Cambodia and was so unimpressed, he went back to Japan. LOL In all seriousness, although I do take reviews from the internets with a grain of salt (sometimes the size of a boulder), there was a lot of negative feedback. Mostly because it just didn't have the "wow" factor they were looking for with that kind of price tag. Sushi's just one of those things to pay a good amount of money for quality, but to quite a handful of reviews I've read, that wasn't delivered, it seems. Hell, I'd like to try a straight up reasonable sushi place with a menu that isn't crowded with gimmicky sushi rolls named after local sports teams and city streets.
