BAIC one of our own needs your help.

I'm, not one to bash on another's taste, cars, what ever. But This is getting pretty serious. This car has taken an already unsafe and completely unpractical trend, to a whole new level. Will some of you please join me in convincing this guy that he is a hazard to himself and everyone on the road.
Please reconsider what you have done here. This is so unsafe, you're going to hurt yourself or someone else.

This isn't about how it looks or being trendy. This is completely unsafe, it's killing the handling characteristics of the car, destroying your tires. Anyone who's thinking of doing please reconsider.

I truly do NOT understand this whole thing. I really, really, really don't get why people do this kind of crap.

I'm actually sort of taken aback that a tire shop would even mount something as stupid as that. That's a liability, son.

The VW scene has been doing this 'stretch and poke' for a while now. I guess there are laws in Europe prohibiting the tread of the tires from stretching past the fender, so when guys tried running lower offset wheels they stuck with thinner tires to get past it.

Just be glad that the Subaru community isn't rusting out hoods yet.

Not my style, but whatever. As long as he knows he shouldn't be trying to drive aggressively on that setup, i don't care.

Please, DO NOT try to take turns hard. That will unlock the bead at some point.

VWs and drift cars have been stretching tires worse than this for a looooong time.

And the owner of that car drives it like a daily driver, not like an autocross car and is realistically not going to hurt anyone in the process.

Also lots of drifters have that much poke and drift their cars HARD without the tires separating from the wheel.

But yea he drives it calmly and nice and easy.

The origin of hipari (stretched tires) is twofold. One: drifters/touge drivers wanted a way to get great steering feel out of normal street tires. Thus, they stretched them to make the sidewalls stiffer, without having to pony up the cash for more expensive tires. Two: drifters/touge drivers want to run as low as possible, and with the current trend of big, wide, low-offset wheels, stretching the tires and running tons of negative camber is the only way to get the necessary clearance.

Thats the reasons why people started doing it, not that I condone it..

Well I learnt something new today...didn't know tires stay attached to wheels when stretched that far.

oh well, to each their own but definitely this:
