Unhappy BAD accident last night 880N

I don't know if any of you saw this or got stuck in traffic because of it but I was the car closest to these people when they crashed.

So yesterday around 8:40pm I was driving 880N coming back from Dixon Landing exit in our '00 Integra. Had just finished skating some spots and I was taking my two friends home. Anyways I was in the 3rd lane over from the left going about 70mph with the flow of traffic. It was still light out but dark enough to have your headlights turned on.

We were just driving along (between Automall and Stevenson exits) when I see in my rear view mirror a car in the lane to my left coming up with no headlights on. It was a small light silverish sedan, not sure what make though. I keep looking back and its a couple, a guy and some girl driving. They leaned over and kissed each other then the guy hung part of his upper body out the passenger window and was waving his arms around for a bit, then got back in (doubt he had a seatbelt on). They pass me up on my left going about 85mph and get about 60' ahead of me. Their car started swerving back and forth in their lane then the girl overcorrected and jerked the wheel to the left. Once I saw them swerving I started braking hard. They hit the center divide at about a 65 degree angle smashing the front end of the car in. Immidiatley after hitting the wall the car flipped 3 to 4 times and eventually landed upside down.

At this point I had already slowed down enough and signaled to my right and got over. I had considered stopping but chose not to since everyone behind me was going 70+mph and I knew people were gonna have to swerve out of the way... it would have endangered myself and my friends if I had pulled over and stopped. Right away I dialed 911 on my cell but someone else had already dialed since it was busy. I called back again when it wasn't busy just to make sure the accident was reported.

I don't know whether these people were drunk or on drugs or what but from what I saw they got SERIOUSLY f-ed up. This was the first time I've seen someone flip their car in person and that **** had to be on the freeway of all places right in front of me!

Called the CHP dispatcher today to check on the status and all the guy could tell me is that the two people in the car were transported to a hospital alive but with major injuries. Can only hope for the best as of now. Just goes to show not to let your guard down while driving, I could have EASILY smashed into that car if I hadn't braked soon enough. Everybody please be careful out there!!

Dang that sucks dood...the closest I've seen of that is when it was raining here in san jose a few months back. I was going down 280 south cruising in the carpool at about 70 mph, which I thought was pertty fast since most cars on the road were driving 40mph or so since alot of accidents were going on with the slippery roads and such. Then comes this speed racer 240sx behind me and starts tailing me like crazy, heh even though it's noon-- and only me and him and a handful of other cars are the only ones on the road. So basically he starts tailing my *** racer style, then swerves hard to the right, probably trying to go around and cut me off... but I guess the idiot didn't know your not spose to do that with RWD in the rain, so all I hear is tires screeching and in my rear view mirror see his car spinning 360's all the way from the carpool lane to the all the way far right lane then BAM he hits the cement wall. Of course I called 911 for him since I thought he died or something but a friend later told me he saw a mangled 240 off the side of the road with the driver outside of it, so I guess he was okay.

And just a few days ago a car stalled in the carpool lane going 280 north.
They were dead stopped in the carpool and me and some other cars were going the usual carpool pace of 75-80mph... Needless to say we all had to break very hard just to avoid crashing into that damn car! The car behind me was less then 1 inch off the *** of my car when i was breaking so I was honking like crazy. Luckily none of us crashed, but afterwards I had to accelerate out into the next lane over with 70 mph+ traffic, good thing our cars accelerate pertty quick >_<.

I saw a guy wipe out on the freeway a few months ago. He was driving like an *******, tailgating people, passing on the right, cutting across multiple lanes to make passes. One of the times he tried to do that he cut across a lane and floored it in his Buick as another car was trying to merge in to the lane where he was going. The guy slammed on the brakes and swerved and slid all the way across till he smashed in to the center divide. His car was jacked.

Since he was driving like a **** before the accident, especially since he had been tailgating me in traffic and I had nowhere to go, I contacted CHP to have them give me a call for a witness statement later and I made sure the officer knew the guy was being an ***. After I gave my account, the officer said the merging car had swerved in to him and that he had just been cruising along, driving Miss Daisy. Liar. They faulted him in the accident based on my statement

Yeah seroiusly, the thing im scared of most are the older cars that tail gate and throw thier car left and right like madmen. I wouldn't even feel safe doing that in a subie with cusco coilovers and brembos, so i'm sure as hell not going to trust people in thier stock 10 year old cars doing it.

Man thats crazy.

I had a Expedition behind me after mt. hamilton on I-5 doing about 85mph (catching up to me) when I saw its front right tire EXPLODE in my rear view mirror, followed by the car pulling off onto the center divide rather hastily... I was surprized that car didnt flip like that one did (60mph onto dirt that wasnt level with the road)...

Scary stuff huh...

Umm...

I thought it was customary to pull over and laugh and point at the driver...especially if he/she is upside down in the car, or trapped inside where they can't get out.

Then you tell them it's 'CAR'MA, and ain't that a b**** when it happens to catch up to them??

Then get back into your car, and drive safely...

(After calling for assistance for them, of course!!)

Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I hope they were not on drugs, but it kinda sounds like they were to be that ****ing retarded.

Sucks for the families, no further comment for the driver and passenger.

Talking

That is wacked...
I was in Las Vegas heaing to our office when I saw a small blue sedan, I think a toyota, swerve around a large desel pick up. While cutting him off he kissed the guys front corner panel with his rear, and stuck it into the center devide. It was nuts..

My friends laugh at me because they say I drive like a grand mother with them in the car. I let them know that this isn't a race track and I drive to be safe. If I go out and stick my STi into a center devide allby myself on an empty road that is my problem but I amnot going to have there lives effected by it.

Of course if you decide to ride along on a MT hammy run that is different. The passenger has made the consious decision to get in a car and drive on a mountain road for the soul purpose of driving.

I just think that they people who drive in and out of lanes and traffic don't know how to drive and have no time management at all. If anything, there should be a mandatory defensive drive class given to all drivers for free. I realize that after driving on the track, you just don't need to drive like a turd on the streets. And it's those people who think that they can do things like be on the celly, watch tv, or whatever while driving are the ones who are causing a lot of accidents...Why are there accidents everyday on the roads???

signalling and getting intot the lane early +5 pts
on the celly and tailgating -50pts
crashing cause you're a turd and don't know it, not priceless = accidents 2+pts on your record

any updates? Anything show up in the paper or what not?

That sucks.

I had to pull a dead body out of the freeway once and talked to a girl until the first response unit got to her and she died right there. 3rd guy got the helicopter.
