Backyard lowbudget Sniper Rifle Project... need some help.

Hi.

Well, I decided to start a little project... I want to put together a sniper rifle for low cost. Yeah, I know... you get what you pay for, etc, etc. The only thing thats gonna be low budget is the scope. The rifle will probably be an M1A or an AR-15, so I need for it to mount on weaver mounts.

The biggest problem with scopes Ive tried is that they sight in just fine, but after a few shots the target isn't true anymore and that pisses me off. I'm looking to spend about 100-120 bucks on it, which is really low buget for a scope but I know there are some decent ones out there. I want some decent magnification, but most importantly I need for it to stay true, even after 1000 shots!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

your rings might be the issue.

i am in the process of getting a savage model for "hunting and self defense" purposes.

and the leupold scope adds about 300-400 to the price of the rifle (i'm trying to get "package" deal with scope, biopds and a case with the rifle).

doesnt matter if you have a kick *** rifle but cant hit the target cause you cant see it...

Word, but I can't justify a friggin $500 scope... thats another pistol, it just hurts to think about it.

good backyard sniper rifle = .22 Magnum (WMR) bolt action rifle, with a heavy, soft barrel.

oh and you would want to run these through it: http://www.outlandsales.com/vmax.html

oh and a Swarovski scope FTW

I'm not going to use a .22, it will most likely be .308... I basically just need a scope that is pretty good but doesn't cost an arm or a leg.

If it's going to be a sniper rifle you gotta get a .308. It fires far better at long range and has tons more knock-down power than a .223

http://sadlak.com/si_custom_sm_fitting.html If you want to get it custom fit.

These are the best mounts for the M1A and are used in combat units Army wide.

daniel,

i think your issue is not with the scope or the rings/mounts.

might be the rifle itself.

as you continue to fire with it, the barrel can get "loose" over the session.

also, your ammo has to do with it.

i mean unless your mounts are very loose, i dont see a scope going bad after shooting.

have you measured your groups at when the firearm is cold vs, a few rounds down the target?

what distances are you shooting at?

I was kidding about shooting it in my backyard... What I meant was its a backyard project and Im going kinda ghetto.

I think I decided on a Nikon scope.. Its a little more expensive then I originally planned @ $280 on sale (suggested price is $550)...

ldivinag, The scope I used before had major issues with its adjustment **** and I think the kick of 5.56 was enough to screw with them... After a while the **** broke and I couldnt adjust it anymore. Whatever you do STAY AWAY FROM NC STAR products!!!

The Nikon is supposed to be the shizzle.
