Car Info: 96 Chevy Impala SS, 06 GMC 2500HD (former 02 WRX)
So, I had an, ummm, wierd day. I ended up driving twice, in two different cars!

In the morning, I ran the Impala SS. Made it thru the warm up and first lap, getting a 25.8 split. Middle of the second lap, I started hearing a faint ticking noise (ut-oh). Gauges OK, so I finished the lap.

Come in, NO TIME (i.e. timer screwed up, I get a rerun ). However, the ticking was pretty loud from the motor .

Go back in the paddock, figure out it is just a roller rocker that came loose about 1 turn on the adjuster (in other words, sounded a helluva lot worse than it was. Borrow some tools, pull the valve cover, and do a surprisingly competent valve adjustment on the #3 intake valve in the parking lot (I suck at adjusting valves). Purrs again, but since I don't know how good the fix is I decide to NOT run that car again today (I'll have the valve covers back off again soon, will do a proper valve adjustment and re-set the rocker arm adjuster nut locks the "right" way).

The "trick" with the Impala on that course is due to my setup/gearing, the entire course is in first gear! However, high RPM in first gear (stock rev limit is 5500, I have it raised to 6200....and was all over the limiter). Probably didn't do that rocker arm nut any good.

We ask, it is OK if I take my rerun in Charlie's STS Integra. They OK it ( ), so I go prep it real quick.

Go out, take my warm up lap and when I come back to start/finish instead of getting the green flag I get a red flag (course workers on course). I then get ANOTHER warm-up lap, then my 2 laps that count in the Integra. Split time is 26.09 (yep, SLOWER than in the 4000lb boat!), final time is 51.939. Good for 2nd in STS.

FWIW, I was likely headed to a mid 51 in the Impala (rough guess) if it had timed right that first time. I ran a 51.889 in it last year on a very close course. "Bad" news is that the one car that WAS clearly faster in CP (Mary Pozzi, in that sweet Camaro) ended up coning her run (50.1, but +1). I likely would have won CP in the boat! DOH!

All in all a fun day, I have four HD videos to edit/upload (Charlie in the Integra, me in the Impala, me in the Integra, Mary in her Camaro), hope to get that done soon.

I ran in SS, but my 2nd turbo was having trouble before the event, only getting 5psi above 5k, and now it's not looking so hot. I guess the car wasn't sounding good under acceleration from what my friend were saying.

Yeah it's a green rx7, rpf1s?

Yeah I did better than my expected 60 seconds. But I know I could have pushed it more in the corners. You'll love this, never left first gear the whole race.

Which car were you? I will see if I have any pictures.

I'm hoping to do some more autocrosses soon, this was fun. Oh and it's going to the shop tomorrow. *crosses fingers for bad vacuum line*

I was there, roughly the 20th car or so to run. 2000 Silver Z28 with the numbers/letters 38 ESP on the sides. 52.2 with a 25.9 split. Car was way loose on the asphalt. I gave up at least a full second on my second lap recovering from oversteer. Reminds me of how much I like racing on concrete.

Oh, and my mom pulled a 61.1 out of her pretty stock grampa-man tan 06 WRX. 18'' Rotas and Eibachs are the only mods so far. Boy does that thing love to understeer.
