AUDT: Which to get? Handgun or shotgun?

When a handgun used in a defensive situation it's because something has gone horribly wrong. This is likely because your long gun has failed (in a combat situation), or someone has engaged you at extremely close range. Either way, you will be (at best) in borderline panic mode.
Usage needs to be near instinctual.
I want the trigger to feel the same on every single shot.

Ok so... Wallet is a concern so that takes out the higher cost guns.... like the Benellis, Sigs, 1911s, .45's etc.
Shotgun? Rem 870 -Proven design. Affordable. Winning. Good for sporting purpose and excellent home defense weapon. EVERY bad guy knows that sound of a shotgun racking.... More often than not that would be enough to make a threat think twice...
Handgun?
.22 Caliber - Ruger MKIII or Browning Buckmark. Will teach great fundamentals and won't break the bank to own or feed. FUN to shoot!
9mm - .40 cal - Glock or XD series. Pick one that works for your hands and shoots best for YOU. I love my Sig's but.... they are at a higher price point.
You can still find all of those guns, even at this time. You may even find an LEO Glock for a *gasp* affordable price. I haven't looked in a while so I may be speaking from my rear here...

Lurk aren't those charts for one handed bullseye shooting and not a proper two handed stance like you would see most people shoot. Some of still carries over obviously but it's not 100%. If he is a right handed shooter and is shooting right/down-right then he probably getting to much finger on the trigger like the chart says however.

Lurk aren't those charts for one handed bullseye shooting and not a proper two handed stance like you would see most people shoot. Some of still carries over obviously but it's not 100%. If he is a right handed shooter and is shooting right/down-right then he probably getting to much finger on the trigger like the chart says however.

What kind of grip are you using?
Edit: just looked at both of your targets you posted and they are both up and left, the gun should "surprise" you everytime is goes off. As far as grip I personally think the thumbs forward grip is the way to go. If this is only your second time shooting like I seem to think for some reason then you aren't doing to bad at all. Most people are not nearly as good of shots with handguns as they are with rifles.
