ATTN: motorcycle riders. please help

Could someone please give me the name and number of a good place in the south bay that makes really good custom motorcycle riding leathers? In search of a leather riding jacket for a friend. Thanks in advance.

there are a couple of choices here. the best is Helmut's European Accesories. the guys there are great, and i have nothing but outstanding things to say about them and their products. i've spent literally thousands of dollars there, and would not hesitate to do so again.

if you're looking for more harley type gear, go to Just Leather. i bought a leather jacket there, and again, have nothing but good things to say about those guys.

i don't know the phone numbers by heart, but both are on the web and you can find them with google. Helmuts is by 101 and 13th in San Jose, and Just Leather is in Stevens Creek by highway 17.

It's Helimot not Helmut. I think Helmut is the owner.

Whew! I thought I was an idiot for not being able to find it on Google or Yahoo. Thanks!

sorry 'bout that, i always misspell the place. Helmut is the owner, and he is a great guy. Helmuts wife and James are great people to deal with too if Helmut isn't in the shop.

There's also Zooni. I haven't seen these in person, but people on BARF have made good noises about them.

It's already been mentioned, but just to further drive the point home, I've never heard anything but outstanding praise for Helimot leathers. Thick *** hides, and the best prices for totally custom work.

It's a bit more pricey than an "off the rack" suit/jacket (sometimes not compared to people like Dainese) but it fits better than "off the rack" and that beter fit helps to keep the leather on you if you go down.

oh, don't ever mention Zooni in Helmut's shop, thats just asking for trouble. Zooni makes good stuff for the most part, and i've seen a lot of people that were really happy with his stuff. however, he and Helmut used to work in the same shop, and as i understand it, had a bit of a falling out to put it mildly.

Also, if you do test them out by throwing yourself down the road, Hellimot also do repair work. Conversely, off the peg gear can end up being trashed because it is less maintainable.

Personally, if I was dropping that kind of money, I would go for the Hellimot because of their reputation.

I've also heard of the Hellimot/Zooni dispute. I think Lindo claims to have co-designed with Helmut, whereas Helmut says the guy was just a member of staff or something like that.

Dianese and other of the rack gear is a one crash afair (trust me, i know). basically, if you go down the road in them, you throw them away when its over. Helmut's stuff is much more durable. i've been at the track and picked up guys in the crash truck who have gone off at up to 100mph, and the only repairs their Helimot leathers need is cosmetic. hell, i've seen Helmut himself crash in his suits, and they've stood up better than anything else i've ever seen.

the only way to knock out a helimot suit in one go is to have the paramedics cut it off you.
