ATTN: Black 04-05 WRX coming off the SM Bridge around 6 tonight
The left lane is for passing. That means if the lane is open in front of you and there is a car behind you who wants to travel faster than you, get out of the way, you dont own the road.

btw, passing on the right side is illegal here in the states...
and causing others to drive slow is illegal to, to a certain degree.. if there are more than 5 people in a line behind u on a one lane road, u are suppose to pull over and allow the others to pass.. the only reason i know that i cause i live in a place with only one lane roads, and very slow drivers lol

sadly i use to be one of those people who just coasted in the left lane. Then I lived in Germany for a while and I finally learned how to drive. The Germans take the left lane thing very seriously

it USED to be the rule the passing on the right is illegal..i belive most states have repealed that law though.
In colorado, they've figured something out. I think it's worked pretty well from what I've heard. If you're driving in the fast lane and aren't passing anybody (just cruising with nobody around mostly) you get a ticket. They call it the "left-lane law." Linky
Maybe 'progressive' california lawmakers should take a look into it
