I've always thought it more accurate to say that the WRX and STI are completely different cars that really only share aesthetics. I could be wrong, though!

A quick post to dispell a common misconception regarding the DCCD.
The DCCD does not control the front/ rear bias, at least not directly. It only controls the amount of lock in the center diff.

For my 06, the native lock (or torque F/R) is 41/59. If the algorithims call for it, it may lock up to full 50/50...I think some of the graphs show that as you "Exit" certain turns, Auto will make it full 50/50. Similarly, as you enter turns, DCCD will not engage at all, leaving it at 41/59 (for my 06).

Motor Trend track-tested a 2005 STi and got the best lap times in Auto.
According to a letter I got from SOA,Manual mode in my 2004 with the wheel all the way rear is the same as Auto.

The drive by wire throttle sucks anus as well. If you apply 50% throttle, you only actually get like 33% (not exactly, but something like that). So even when you put down 90% throttle, you're not getting 90%. Doesn't make sense, huh? With a good AP tune (or whatever tune) it fixes that issue, so the throttle is way more accurate when you put your foot down. I saw a huge difference after my tune.
Not only that, but my power increase was GREAT!

if i remember to.. i always put my CD on full open. spirited/canyon driving i'll lock it 2 rolls up from open.
in the snow i'll roll it up closer to lock or fully lock the center diff. i'm not really a fan of the auto feature.

Auto mode is supposed to be the fastest mode for DCCD. My best guess: auto mode is more efficient in getting power down to the ground than any manual setting. The STi’s rear Torsen diff isn’t preload, so when the inside rear wheel gets off the ground, I would imagine that you would want the DCCD to send as much torque to the front as possible. Translating engine power to forward motion is what these cars are good at. Where as the rest of the time, it would probably be preferable to have most of the torque going to the rear (At least that's the way I prefer it). I doubt it really matters in situations where you aren't driving the **** out of your car.

I did want to find a place that is a big open area...cops free, I donno...get to know the car a bit more?? doing some rally style drift, hair pin drift (sorry, I'm a big WRC fan)
anyway...love the car, love it from inside out...
