Attempted break-in, what should I do?
Recently there have been many break-in's in my neighborhood which is very surprising as my parents who have lived here for awhile never have seen this happen until now. So basically, on the Night of July 29, I was working in the garage with the side door of my garage open, lights on, and the radio on. and right around 9:15pm I hear the side gate being pushed open, but thought it was the wind, but seconds later, I hear the side gate being tried to be kicked down, which thankfully had a lock on since I have been too lazy to unlock it since coming back. I freaked out and ran to the side door and slammed it shut. The kicking sound went away immediately and called 911. The lady on the other end was just shrugging me off as if nothing happened or I was making a prank call which was pissing me off, but once I gave her more details she finally set someone out. 30min passed by since the beginning of the call and cops showed up and took report of what happened.
Fast forward to today, I went to the station and talked to an officer about two certain vehicles that have caught my eye since the attempted break in. While the officer WAS helpful, he just seemed to not give a damn about the information I was giving him.
As of now, the whole neighborhood is on alert and notified of the attempted break in. Family is all okay, unharmed and inside with locked doors and closed windows.
My question is, since my parents don't know what to do:
1. What should /can be done about the cops who seem to blow my information off?
2. What should/can be done next?
3. Is there anything that can be done Home safety wise?
4. Any advise?
Thanks in Advance,
-Matt

I was thinking about getting this for my house. My neighbor's house had been broken into recently.

Any suggestions on surveillance cameras? I was looking at frys today.
There is a set of those on the side of the house, but will look into getting one in the front yard.
No way would I confront a robber. Now if I was a big guy, I probably would as it may freak the crap out of him.
LOL
Nice find, might look into it, or get a video system.
I would but the whole legalities of a gun are just confusing, and seem to go against the shooter even if you are defending yourself. I live in Los Altos.
