My friend lives down there, and he comes and visits up here and wants to go to places like Target, since there isn't one in Santa Barbara. He has to drive 45 minutes to a freaking Target because the people in SB are so into not wanting to be a real city.

I got pulled over by a cop once. She said something like "you've done all this stuff already to the car" ... referring to my boost gauge. I was like "yea u can preetty much get boost gauges stock now ... "

We all need to come to grips with the fact that things are going to get worse way before they ever get better. I have several friends that work for the CHP and for local PD in my town and they see this increased inforcement as a quadriple edged sward.
1)More tickets increase revenue (Look at the CHP cracking down on out of state reg. cars)
2)It slows down some of the spread of street racing
3)It's a big waste of officers time (They would rather catch real bad people)
4)More tickets increase revenue (Our broke a$$ state needs all the money they can plunder from our huddled masses)
When it comes right down to it Santa Barbara wants MONEY and the local police and CHP are the strong arm that is getting it (Read: Squeezing it from our skinny wallets).
My $.02
Good article.....

I think that part of their enthusiasm is derived from revenue resulting from the citations issued. They are pulling cars over based on what the officer thinks may be under the hood. It isn't like a show of force in known street racing areas or the patrolling of certain freeway corridors on Wednesdays.
Remember, kids - stock intake + black IC hoses = teh sleepAR.

"Police say such modifications are dangerous because they increase the likelihood of accidents occurring due to excessive speed, racing-related or not, and because they contribute to air pollution and auto theft."
Along those same lines of thought, shouldn't cops be pulling over Vipers, Ferrarris, SUVs, V8 or V10 cars or trucks as they contribute significantly more to air pollution and auto theft ?
And since when do the cops give tickets for people because their car might be stolen? If cops are going to pull over cars that contribute to auto theft, they should be pulling over Toyota Camrys as they are the most stolen car in America.
I agree that this is all about the money for local and regional cops, and not their fault as these orders come from the top down to the bottom of the police force.
Tax the rich, it works better !!!

Nordyke, who describes illegally modified vehicles as "the new muscle cars," said prior to the training, enforcement of laws regulating engine modifications was nonexistent.
i bet his *** had a muscle car or wish he had one, now he has to go on ticket people becuase he did not have the chance to own a nice car when he had the chance...

quick random question about tickets,
does the ticket funds go directly to the local area? city pd tickets fund the city, etc,
so in that sense, the state sees no revenue from tickets?
could somebody explain this?
but on the other hand, if the state is making budget cuts,
the local levels are out on their own, so individual funding (tickets) is good one way or another,
so asking where the money goes to, state or city or county, is a mootpoint given the financial situation of our fine state...
...but i still wanna know
