Armed Robbery just outside my building at work

So at around 5pm this evening (still light outside), a co-worker of mine was just outside of our work building in Berkeley b/w Grayson and 10th just off the Ashby exit, when according to him 4 teenagers came up to him one with a gun pointed at him took his wallet and cell phone. He's fine, a little shocked as anyone would be. Cops came by took statements from him and another co-worker that actually saw it happening or at least part of it.

Scary as we all frequent and hang out just outside all the time.

Crime is going up unfortunately, be careful everyone, keep your eyes peeled, and practice your photographic memory!

Sorry to hear about your friend, what a crappy thing to go through.

I bet you $10 that the gun wasn't real... A very high chance that they were using a VERY realistic airsoft gun. Apparently thats all the craze with teens now since they can't get real guns, and if they were to buy one illegally it would cost them BAAAANK, and if they are robbing people I can promise you that they don't have cash to blow on guns.

You can always tell if its an airsoft gun by looking into the barrel of the gun. If it has a small 6mm brass barrel inside of the fake barrel (the barrel that looks real) then you know it's airsoft. It's easy to spot if you know what to look for.

Take this picture for example:

See how there's a brass colored barrel inside the outter barrel? That indicates 100% that its an airsoft gun. Criminals are too stupid to remove the brass barrel, so keep an eye out for that if it happens to you. Whats the worst that can happen? They shoot you with a plastic bb?

Or...it could be a real gun and they shoot you with REAL bullets.

Advice or survival - consider every gun waved at you real, loaded, and ready to kill you.

It's just a wallet and possessions - nothing worth your life.

Of course! But if you see a smaller airsoft barrel inside of what should be the real barrel, it's pretty safe to say that you're going to be safe because there is NO gun on earth that has a 6mm brass barrel inside of the main barrel. There are other little things that you can spot that gives it away, but the barrel is the best way to ID them. Also, if a teen pulls out a gun the chance of it being airsoft is even higher.

But like you said, unless you're 100% sure that its a fake gun, don't do anything rash... Hell, even if you are sure, don't do anything stupid cuz getting pistol whipped SUCKS!

yeah, unless youre trained or very familiar with airsoft vs real i wouldnt take the chance with being shot with a bb pellet. ive been held up with a barrel to my face and i gave up the $80 in my wallet without even thinking. **** that, i didnt even have the time to think whether or not if the gun was real or not, considering it was the fastest and longest 5 seconds in my life

Would you bet your life on it? Or the life of your spouse?
