If you're in fremont I'd talk to Mike. I am pretty sure they changed machine shops last year and it seems to me that the motor in the "L" is holding up pretty well. I can recommend some but I don't know exactly what machine work you need.

As for the rebuild... books. Buy good books. Look at EVERY youtube link you can find on building suby motors. Read and ask questions. NASIOC has TONS of info on the subject.

Mostly... good luck!

Best machine shop I've found
Replika Maschinen, Inc - Santa Clara, CA
In Santa Clara. Not cheap... and you get what you pay for.

Yes you need torque plates... for the extra $40 it costs compared to the couple thousand you'll have into the motor why wound anyone cheap out?
I'll also suggest coated main & rod bearings from Polydyn

thansk for the input guys... I am reading that lot of people are using ACL Race bearings... they have a .001 additional clearance option....

Any key thing about running larger tolerances??? The theory i have read is that you run thicker oil and also it should help prevent spinning a rod...

Maybe I'm not looking in the right spot, but the ACL's don't look like anything special to me
The Polydyn treated bearings have a dry-film lubricant baked onto them. Makes the bearings live a lot longer during oil starvation situations, like start-up or hard cornering when the oil sump gets uncovered

Small investment for a lot of durability

What are you plans for the motor? Sleeves? What brand/type of pistons? If you go with cosworth pistons I've got their cir clip installer tool and a proper 99.5mm ring compressor, might have a piston pin puller tool around somewhere as well.

Do you plan on having the machine shop do all work and assembly of the short block? There's lots of things to think about when you're building up a new block.

We build mild to wild and use various machine shops for a particular build.
