Question anyone use a cell phone as a tethered modem?

i'm looking to replace a 5-6 year old cell phone... (yeah i'm that much behind... lol i just like my kyocera 6035...).

i'm looking at t-mobile with the blackberry curve.

i just talked to a TM store and the guy there said if i connect the BB as a modem, i'll expect to see speed in the 120k range...

anyone else use another carrier (or even TM) and use it a lot as a modem>?

what speeds are you NORMALLY getting?

TM charges $20 a month more extra for the unlimited data plan...

what's your carrier's extra charge?

thanks...

Yea I have the BB pearl and you can use it as a modem, not sure what kind of speeds though. Its only $19 a month more for unlimited data on T-mobile.

I've used my RAZR as a modem. I had to do a dial-up connect with SBC though.

I have a Cingular 3125 "Smartphone" Unlimited data plan on Smartphones is $20/month. With Cingular/AT&T you have their Edge Network. I see data speeds of 230K just about anywhere. Other providers are maybe half that unless you happen to live in a 3G area, which are still few and far between.

I have a Motorola Q on Verizon that I tether when I am out at the track for doing email and updates etc etc. The speed on it when I last tested it was right around 300kb on full EVDO service. I have to say the speed and way it works is awesome and pretty much the only reason I switched from AT+T to Verizon.
